I've been away from the world of rifles for a while. Dick's has a Savage Model 11, in .243, for $329, with a 3x9 scope. I know that Savage made a respected Model 110. What is a Model 11? Is this a reasonable deal?

Is the Model 11, 111 the replacement for the model 10,110? If so, what are the differences? Thanks.

Larry

That particular gun has a removable magazine. It is NOT an accu-trigger model. It's still a pretty good deal, though. I'm not the world's biggest expert on Savages, and they have occasionally done funny things with their number designations, but I think these are model 11's (vs. model 10's) due to the fact that they have the removeable mag.

The model 11/111 is the latest version of the 10/110 series... the model 11/111's shown on the savage website say they are all accu-trigger'd... The 10/110 is now offered as the Stevens model 200.

Is it any good? Uh... yep!!

Dick's has the Savage in long action for $349 rangen with scope.
I am thinking of getting one in 300 Mag just because---

I know the Savage website says they all have the accu-trigger, but I believe this gun is a "promotional" model made only for Dick's that DOES NOT have the accu-trigger.

Accu-trigger

Is there any way to verify whether the model 11 at Dick's has the accu-trigger? The clerk at Dick's is very nice, but he doesn't seem to know a lot about firearms.

Very good deal for a detachable box mag rifle. Wish my Stevens 200 had a D box mag.

Okay, here is a lesson on Savage nomenclature.

The original Savage 110 was, well, a 110. It came in various letter configurations, depending on features. The most basic 110 was the 110E, which was the original blind-magazine version.

The 110c was the model with the detachable magazine.

Then came the 111, which was the deluxe 110 (also called the Chieftan).

110's were both long and short action retaining the 110 designation.

Then came the 1990's and we got the 10 as the short action and the 110 as the long action.

The 110 is the basic model, the 10 being the short version.

111 evolved into a basic package model (but it could have a detachable magzine). The Model 11 was the short version. It is also called the hunter series. Many of these will not have the accutrigger while basic 110's do. They can be a great place to start if you want to change triggers out.

114 became the deluxe model, the 14 being the short version. Also called the Classic model.

The 112 became the heavy-barreled varmint model, the 12 being the short version.

The 116 became the Weather Warrior stainless model, the 16 being the short version.

Enlightment!

Thanks for all of the replies.

Ash was very informative. "111 evolved into a basic package model (but it could have a detachable magzine). The Model 11 was the short version. It is also called the hunter series. I don't think the staff at Dick's would allow me tear down a rifle to check the action out! None of the literature mentions an adjustable trigger, so I now assume it does NOT have one. Can the trigger be replaced with an accutrigger? If so, what will that cost? Thanks.

Larry

You can visually see the accutrigger. And if it doesn't have it, you can't add it. But it's really easy to tune, or can be replaced with a Timney or Rifle Basix.

The non-accutrigger Savage rifles still have an ok trigger. They ARE adjustable. The accu-trigger looks like a Glock trigger. There's a sheet metal blade that moves inside the trigger. You don't have to disassemble the gun to see this. Either one is a good trigger. The accu-trigger just gives you a little extra measure of safety if you want to make the trigger pull really light.

You shouldn't have much trouble getting a normal (non-accutrigger) Savage trigger pull weight down to 3-4 pounds). This is just fine for hunting.

My question is will the barrel for a savage model 10 fit the model 11? Are they that similar?

Yes, they are interchangeable.

Per the website all 10/110 series are wood stocked and the 11/111 series are synthetic.

Savage DOES still make the 110.

They are generally excellent in the accuracy department and, at least to me, they are ALOT better looking than they used to be.
