Savage 110 barrels

Just bought a cheap old Savage 110 in .270. I would like to rebarrel to a stainless 6.5x55 Swedish. Who sells good barrels at reasonable prices?

E.R. Shaw makes good barrels. Douglas makes a better product. Brux is better still. Yes the price goes up with quality. There are many more mfg of "drop in" barrels.

How much are you looking to spend? A stainless Shaw will be about $180+. The Gun Shack had some around that price. $250 for a Douglas at thier web site. Sharp Shooter Supply has brux barrels about for about $365.

Edit** $200 for the Shaw, $289 for the Mcgowin, $320+ for the Douglas, and $440+ for the Brux. It had been a while since I've done price checks. In this situation price reflects the extra work that goes in to making a quality barrel.**

You may want to contact E.R. Shaw about their barrels and Savage barrel kits.

The 6.5 Swede would likely be a special order.

Something I am unsure of and haven't looked up is if your 270 bolt face will work with a 6.5X55 Swede? You may (or may not) need to open your existing bolt face a little. You should have a .473 and the Swede I believe is .480.

I have done the Shaw 6.5x55 Swede barrel swap with no issue other than with the bolt face, just use American (Remington, Winchester) brass cases to fit the bolt face.

Or just get a get the .260 barrel. Very similar performance.

I have Shilen and ER Shaw barrels and would vote for Shilen over the Shaws any day.

I have done ER Shaw, Shilen and McGowan

The McGowan would outshoot the Shilen but not by much both shooting in the .2's

ER Shaw is a good low cost factory grade barrel

OP I actually did the same conversion that you are looking at. I even used the same model gun. I used a ER Shaw barrel as all I wanted was MOA accuracy. The barrel delivered no problem. My handloads are under MOA easily and cheap PPU ammo is accurate too.

I did not have to modify my bolt at all to feed any 6.5 Swede I've tried. (Winchester, Remington, and PPU). All I had to do was tweak the feed lips on the magazine a little for every round would feed reliably.

I did a semi-custom McGowen . . . long wait. In fact I am borrowing an action wrench from a friend today to mount it.

Shaw barrels will outshoot most of the folks using them. I have used several and been pleased with them for hunting. I have also used several Douglas barrels, they never disappoint. My shooting does not require the money needed for benchrest barrels.

Jeffmack, its your lucky day. I have a 6.5x55 1/8.5 twist barrel, 26" long ER Shaw full bull barrel for my old 110. $50 plus shipping Its chrome moly and has a coat of Duracoat on it for protection but if your turning it down that would be no problem. Round count is just short of 300 rounds. It wasn't what I wanted to for Fclass and too damn heavy to lug around for hunting

Start off with intended goal and budget considering you have been a member since 2008.

Go to gunshack.com I've used avuncular of ershaw barrels along with shilen and Douglas. I'll keep my cheaply ershaw barrels. I've see no reason accuracy wise to spend 2-3x more. Just finished this one with a ershaw from gunshack. Got the barr in 4 days for 225
