All,

Any ideas on what may cause this? I put a Redfield Revolution 3x9 40 scope on it. I am not sure it is the scope or the rifle. I bore sighted it best I could with the naked eye which I have done on plenty of rifles before. With the windage on the scope adjusted all the way it still shoots about 12 inches right but is one hell of a group this is at 25 yards on an indoor range. There is no damage to the crown or anything else that I can see.

Thoughts?

Nothing normal should cause it. That is close to 48 MOA.

I would suspect the scope. Does POI move over if adjusted the opposite way?

If the bore were off center it would have showed up in bore sighting. Same if the barrel were not straight. Then so does bases being off or bad scope.

Since the group is good again I would think scope. I guess a lense could be misaligned or whatever goes haywire on scopes.

Like saddlerocker suggested try a different scope or same scope on a different rifle.

If you could post a pic of your scope setup, something might reveal itself. Just based on what you're saying, I'd suspect either your mount setup or the scope itself.

To be that far off, if it were something with the gun itself, it should be visible. Some Savage rimfires have shipped with scope mount holes drilled off center, yours could be one of them. DIP makes their mounts with the holes slotted at one end to compensate. Burris Signature rings with offset inserts could also be used to correct the problem. Which might be a viable solution if the rifle shoots too good to part with. I'd put my good eye on the rifle and mounts to see if anything looks to be out of place. If not, try another scope.

Also bear in mind that centerfire scopes, set parallax free at 100-150yds, will show some extreme parallax issues at 9x when shooting at ranges as short as 25yds. To shoot at 25-50yds, you really need either a dedicated rimfire scope or an adjustable objective.
