Just wondering.

I have an opportunity to buy a .243 Savage Model 10 w/ wood stock NIB for $300. Is the Accutrigger worth the $100 plus? Can the old trigger be tuned at all by a non-gunsmith?

The gun will be used for casual shooting at the range.

Thanks!

$300 is a pretty good buy assuming the rifle is brand new. You can get the Sharp Shooter Supply trigger for $90.

As far as the original pre-accutrigger goes, I've never used one before nor do I know of any mods you can do to the existing trigger to lighten the pull. You may want to post on SavageShooters.com for more opinions regarding the pre-accutrigger.

Are you getting this rifle from a private party or from a dealer? If it's from a dealer, do they have any more Savage 10/110 series for $300?

It was better than some, but not as good as the Accutrigger. It was fairly adjustable, I think it would go down to about 3-3.5 lbs with a few turns of the screwdriver. Do a search on the internet for adjusting a savage trigger...it's not that hard...if you know which end of a screwdriver to hold, you can probably adjust it yourself. SC

This worked great on one of my Savage triggers and I got a nice crisp 3.5# pull.
The other trigger had slop in the trigger pin and I never liked the way it felt. So, I got the SSS trigger for that rifle. Its now down to a cool 1.5# pull.

People like the accutrigger, but without trying one, I'd lean toward the SSS as a more conventional mechanism. Stuck in my ways I guess.
