Hey there just bought a new Savage weather warrior in .223 its kitted out with the new accustock, i put a Kahles 3x9x40 on it i have had it out twice so far, its doing 1" moa out of the box with a cold barrel ,very happy with it so far ,just wondered if any one else out there has had any experience with these rifles and cared to give an opinion.cheers.

I have the same rifle in 7mm-08 but haven't shot it yet. I can't stand the POS butt pad so I removed it and threw it in the trash where it belongs. I ordered an XCoil recoil pad to replace it and will give a full report once I install the new pad and get to the range. I'll be using a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40mm (RZ600). All in all I'm impressed with the Savage and was planning on buying another in .30-06. However, I'm leaning more towards a T/C ICON Weather Shield in .30-06. I was VERY impressed with that rifle when I got to spend some time with one last month.

Are you shooting factory ammunition or reloads? I would guess factory based on your 1 MOA results. If my 7mm-08 isn't under 1/2 MOA at 100 yards with reloads (139gr Hornady SSTs) I'll be disappointed.

Do you have a 1/9.25"twist or the 1/11" twisted Savage!

Let us know how it shoots the 139gr SST, we have been getting mixed reviews concerning the 1/11"twist in the 7mm-08. Some say they are 'one holing' with 139 grainers but most others who have purchased the new Savages with the slower twist have been disappointed as for accuracy.

As for the OP's question, I have several 116/16 Accustock/ Accutrigger rifles in varying calibers. They all shoot great, and I mean I have some stuff I put together custom, Stiller, Panda and so on, all sporter stuff we are talking, no bench, varmint or competition rifles, and all but one of the Weather Warriors will hang right with the customs.

While the Savage isn't a 30yr old Model 700 or Model 70, they are excellent rifles and the costs are not bad.

One word....follow your owners manual to the letter when setting the barreled action.

Follow the torque sequence and use the correct torque specs or the Accustock becomes moot. Torque values for all 3 screws is 40 inch pounds, executed in a particular manner. Also, put a dab of grease between the angled side of the recoil lug clamping wedge and the aluminum insert in the stock. Do not put grease between the wedge and the recoil lug of the rifle.

True the factory recoil pad is....well, it is mushy to say the least, but it soaks up nearly all the recoil.

You should get better groups than your getting now with an ammo change or reloads, I have not seen too many Savages that wont shoot sub MOA right out of the box.

Good luck with it, and enjoy!

Neither I suppose. Savage lists the twist rate as 1 in 11.5" so I assume that's what I have! I could always check it with a cleaning rod and patch but I'll most likely do that IF the thing won't shoot worth a damn.

Will do!! I should be taking it to the range this month and maybe as soon as next weekend. The butt pad will be here by Monday.

Hey there 1858 your right i am at present using factory loads 55grn hornady vmax sst, pretty sure i will improve my moa on 1" with reloads and getting a bit more time with the rifle ,although the hornady v max is an outstanding factory load and has with tuning performed really well for me in a howa 1500 and a remington 788 (both of which i recently sold) i have got a hunt coming up in a couple of weeks, fallow deer so if all goes well....hopefully venny in the pan.
