Whatchoo gon be shootin' widit?!

Also depends on what you already have.

For a range/glovebox/home-defense pistol, I'd suggest the G21. For carry, I'd suggest a G30.

If you just want a beautiful creature of a gun, I'd suggest the 1911.

alternative

...here's a sweet deal. Go to Summit Gunbroker and buy the old style Sig, Nickle, P 220 for $575.

Get a Witness Elite Match in .45ACP. $467 including shipping from Bud's. Excellent trigger and fitted slide and frame in their custom shop.

From a strictly "defense" stand point......Glock...for reliability..
From an all around stand point..............1911...for "purty" factor.
Both are great designs..........

Better try the Glock before you choose that. The standard Glock 21 is too big for my hand. The Glock 21SF might work where the standard won't. I've never had an opportunity to shoot one.

If we're talking ONLY standard Glock 21, then I'd pick the M1911. I've got four of them, three .45s and a .38 Special. They fit my hands very well and are all accurate and reliable. I'm currently thinking about an RIA .38 Super if I can find one at a good price, especially a nickeled one.

i agree with ski new mexico. if you want a defense weapon, no $600 1911 is going to be as reliable as a 21. if you already have a defense pistol then go for a spartan. the trigger is amazing for a $600 gun. far better than colts that cost almost $1000

I'd pick the XD45, I was set on buying the glock 21 until I actually held one, its got all the ergonomics of a 2x4. Then I picked up the XD45 and it actually felt pretty nice in my hand, without those annoying finger ridges too.

Go try out each gun if you can, unless you have some big old gorilla paws, I think you'll decide against the glock 21.
