I bought a lot of brass that was supposed to be once fire and it turned out to be a lot of junk, but that is another story. I found some interesting cases in there. Take a look.

The blown one is a 9mm, almost certainly fired out of a 40 S&W. The others are 45 acp with bulges that match 1911 type barrel cuts.

The 45 ACP rounds could have been fired in either a 1911 with a barrel that has been over-ramped or a Glock with a similar problem. I have seen some people do scary ramping jobs on barrels and the ammo fired in them becomes disposable like an aluminum case. That 9 case was definitely fired in a 40 chamber, common mistake, seen it happen a couple of times.

What's scary is a fellow I know who swears that Red Dot "Works for everything". Don't need to measure, just pour some in. Accuracy doesn't matter, so long as it goes bang.
We keep telling him someday it's gonna go BOOM!

Red Dot does work for everything! And I do too measure (sometimes)! :D

Let me guess, the bulged 45 cases have Triton headstamps?

David, no actually the bulged 45s are mostly Winchester with some Federal and Remington mixed in. There were 40+ that looked just like that that I threw away..........

Don't need to measure, just pour some in.

The guy who sold me my initial reloading gadgetry—I'm still using the Rock Chucker—said one of his customers loaded .45 A.C.P. by using the case as a scoop, then shaking out enough Red Dot to make room for the bullet, "and he's only wrecked one gun so far."

:uhoh: I just ran some full case simulations in QuickLoad for RedDot ... while some of the smaller cases looked OK ... the 45acp looks WAY too hot for that technique ... and I didn't even look at filling a case to the brim ... I was looking at filling it to the base of the seated bullet. It WOULD be nice to know that something on your shelf could be used in that fashion in a pinch, but I think that it would have to be a little slower ... 2400 maybe? Still, that wouldn't apply to a magnum caliber as a 100% of 2400 in a 357 case has to take you over SAAMI ...

Well, I can volunteer two pieces of information for you Poodleshooter. One, I suck at closeups, the camera is fine but I need some lessons....
Two, the primers look FINE. They are not even flattened. There is a little bit of flow (cratering), but very little flattening. Even more interesting is all three 45 cases just happen to be Speer, but two of the bulgies have a Glock/HK (square) type firing pin indentations and one has a 1911 type (round) indentation. The bulges are all very close in size, location and shape. I had not bothered to look at the primers until you mentioned it, I am starting to wish I had the rest to look at. I am curious to know how many guns this moron was beating on......

WAY OFF TOPIC ... but in the interest of passing on good info ... if you zoom your lens out as far as you can, the focus will be less sensitive. Also, many camera have a feature where you can focus on something with a lot of texture (the focus algorithm favors this situation) that is the same distance away from your lens by pressing the "shutter release" half way ... you then hold the half pressed condition while you re-aim and then finish pressing and take the picture. There is also a "macro feature" on some cameras that allow them to focus better on close-ups ... use it if you have it. These three tips should help get you most of the way there!

I was thinking: That 9mm was WAY off center, but then it occurred to me ... what do you expect when you set it in a 10mm diameter chamber before touching it off :what:

Thanks for the tips saands. The pics in this post were all taken in the macro mode with the zoom out about 30% or so. Any less and focus was not working. Lighting is also a big problem for me as is getting this da&$x camera focused. Full up auto and digital is new to me, the lag is terrible. Need to find out how to go full manual on this thing, I might even have to resort to reading the manual :scrutiny: Nikon Coolpix 4500 in case you are interested, it should be capable.......

One day I will learn how to use it and post great pics!!!!

Some of the RedDot comments made me spew a beer all over my 'puter, Standing Wolf, if this keyboard croaks, I'm gonna come hunting for you! (you too, Mikul!). Where's the ROTFL post warning label? :D

And none of my HKs leave those Glock-type firing pin scrape marks (or unsupported chamber crescents); they must be broken.
