From WASW TV in Wausau Wisconsin

Students say they were in shock when administrators preemptively locked down their school after hearing about anonymous threats. Now, both parents and students are worried about how safe it is to go back.

"Schools supposed to be a safe place and something like this happens," Said Lakeland Union student Mark Smit. "It's kind of upsetting."

Lakeland Union resembled more of a prison than a school as police searched for a weapon. Superintendent Mike Dailey was already concerned after finding a graffiti message in a bathroom Tuesday night. And hearing a tip from a student lead him to make his decision.

"A student heard from other students while in the hall that information was related to a possible weapon," said Lakeland Union Superintendent Mike Dailey. "That Escalated my concern."

As the search went on, parents could only wait outside waiting for a cell phone call from their kids.

"We don't know anything but other people have been talking to their kids which normally they can't do," said Lakeland parent Debbie Belliveau.

Four-and-a-half hours later, no weapon was found and the school finally released the tired kids. But many of them aren't sure if they want to risk coming back the next day.

"People were angry because they were getting hungry and had to go to the bathroom. And it was stressful," said Alexis Belliveau, who was inside the school during the lockdown.

"I don't really want to go back tomorrow but i'm probably going just to find out what really happened," said student Dane Koengeter.

Superintendent Dailey says despite not finding any weapons in the school he still stands by his decision for the lockdown.

A minor incident occured about 2 PM when one of the officers in the school had their rifle accidentally go off. The bullet hit the ground and no one was injured

End of Story

NOTICE the Last Paragraph.. A MINOR INCIDENT!!! :banghead:
and i can't be trusted to CCW a gun.... :cuss:

A rifle at that! I mean regular duty weapons would not be enough to search for a potential weapon that may or may not even exist. No you have to grab the heavy firepower to ignore students' rights and do mass searches for thier safety. These are the same students that are going to grow up thinking it is okay for roadblocks and checkpoints that search anyone to make them safe. Have to ease the sheeple into accepting it as all they have ever known, and therefore correct to assume it is appropriate for thier safety.

Lockdown

What puzzles me is that...during a school shooting/rampage...the building is locked down, preventing escape. The shooter can only be in one place at a time. Why do they keep the kids who aren't under his control from abandoning ship? Seems like they'd want as many out of the building as possible.

Odd thinking, IMO.

turner-

Because obviously he is hiding and therefor everyone is suspect

What I want to know is why any of the kids was in there that long. I'd be on the phone with my lawyer within the first ten minutes if they refused to let my kid out of the building, esspecialy one with a possible gunman, esspecialy one of the officers had already put my childs life in danger firing his weapon in an uncontrolled maner.
