Students say they were in shock when administrators preemptively locked down their school after hearing about anonymous threats. Now, both parents and students are worried about how safe it is to go back.
"Schools supposed to be a safe place and something like this happens," Said Lakeland Union student Mark Smit. "It's kind of upsetting."
Lakeland Union resembled more of a prison than a school as police searched for a weapon. Superintendent Mike Dailey was already concerned after finding a graffiti message in a bathroom Tuesday night. And hearing a tip from a student lead him to make his decision.
"A student heard from other students while in the hall that information was related to a possible weapon," said Lakeland Union Superintendent Mike Dailey. "That Escalated my concern."
As the search went on, parents could only wait outside waiting for a cell phone call from their kids.
"We don't know anything but other people have been talking to their kids which normally they can't do," said Lakeland parent Debbie Belliveau.
Four-and-a-half hours later, no weapon was found and the school finally released the tired kids. But many of them aren't sure if they want to risk coming back the next day.
"People were angry because they were getting hungry and had to go to the bathroom. And it was stressful," said Alexis Belliveau, who was inside the school during the lockdown.
"I don't really want to go back tomorrow but i'm probably going just to find out what really happened," said student Dane Koengeter.
Superintendent Dailey says despite not finding any weapons in the school he still stands by his decision for the lockdown.
A minor incident occured about 2 PM when one of the officers in the school had their rifle accidentally go off. The bullet hit the ground and no one was injured
