scope advice

Thank you for taking the time to write up a nice post with thoughts and ideas on the Pic rail . I ended up going wit hthe nightforce Extreme from a local shop and it sits perfect on the gun. the lug snugs up well and seems like a non issue unless possibly like you said feeding from the top. I will be using the magazine so did not see any concerns on that . the thing is sturdy and well made. Talked to bergara about the mounts and they made sure to tell me I need the #6 48 screws to install. the Nightfoce mount does not say what sizes scres are included with the base and looking on the internet seems like no positive answer. going to contact them and see what the two different sized scres are for sure . everything you said about the pic rail makes sense and is why I decided on it . little more expensive but considering what the gun and the optics are going to cost would like to make sure it sits thay way i expect it to .been looking and hoping to see a Black Friday deal for the Leupold scope . love this forum as you get honest answers and experiance from people who have been there .

I use Weaver aluminun bases and Burris Zee rings. No issues even on 7mm and .300 magnums.

A normal scope LOL should work fine without the need for a many slot base. The only reason to go to one IMHO is if shooting long range ( needing slant ) or running beedt pic rail type rings.

i would not put tnat stuff on a hunting rifle that gets carried around.

BTW Leupold I think has a 4-12X Freedom VX scope w 6.5 reticle ( reg duplex w a couple hash marks on lower wire ).

Hey flatsticks, I recently acquired a Savage 110 Desert Tactical 6.5CM with a rail. Bought it even though I really wanted a Bergara, but chose to save some money I have a Bergara BXR with a built in rail mounting system. Both guns with rails are great. I put a Tract Response 4-16X with BDC reticle. It is a remarkably good scope especially when you only pay $424. It is a better scope than some I have paid more for, including Leupold. Here's the cool thing. My chosen targets are the same as yours; coyotes, deer, and longer distance targets. i hope to whack a few reluctant coyotes that stop 400-500 yards out and refuse to come any closer to my call. I'm building loads at my reloading bench for these targets.

Thanks for the words of encouragement Sniper66 . sounds like we have similar goals in mind . hope the loads you create work out real good for nailing the long distance dogs.
