I'm thinking about putting a scope on my MP15 OR.

I was oriented towards the VORTEX VIPER PST 1-4x24 bought together with the VORTEX branded ADR quick release cantilever mount. I see that these mounts are offered with a 2" or 3" offset, is there a reason to choose one over the other?

As I have a set of DD rail mounted fixed sights, I was wandering if I could keep them on without interfering with the scope, what do you gentlemen think?

A typical scope does't have enough eye relief to mount it that far forward.

And others must have found that out, as the ADR quick release cantilever mount has been discontinued.

If you want to scope it with those iron sights in the way!!

Only a long eye relief 'scout scope' will have a long enough eye relief to see through it.

But the iron sight will still block half the scope lens.

I think you need to pick one or the other, not both.

Many AR types intended for telescopic sights come as "flat top", i.e. no sights at all so you pick what you need. But RC is exactly correct, and eye relief on you scope of choice is 4" per their specs tab.

You can keep your open sights, but you might want to consider a set that folds out of the way. At 1x my 1-4x scope on my M&P-15 does "see" the A2 front sight as a showdowy image. At about 2x it disappears. Would your scope of choice do that? No idea.

Still, the open sights you show would be a rather large distraction to me.

Thanks RC and ku4hx, i guess if I scope it I will put on a set of foldable sights.
I'm toying with the whole scope idea to gain more reach, but I really like the actual set up. I should probably learn to squeeze the most out of what I have before buying new toys.......
And also thanks for moving the thread in the right section!

I disagree. The 2" offset is standard on the AR. The receiver is crowded to the stock. The reason the ADR quick detached was "discontinued" is because they went from American Defense to Bobro. The 1-4x24 is a popular option but their Strike Eagle 1-6 with the drop compensated reticle is arguably a better deal. It's Optics Planet 2015 Product of the Year.
