Bought a new Savage 11 on 10/3/14. Its one of their package deals with scope mounted. Couldn't sight in, come to find out the forward scope base was loose. And of that the forward scope base screw wasn't screwed in all the way and was already tight. I take it out and the screw is stripped. The hole in the receiver doesn't look great either. The other base is slightly loose but not as much as the forward base. You think Savage will make this right or will they blame it on me and charge me to drill and tap again? Would a local smith be better for this type of thing?

Savage has been pretty good about taking care of stuff like that, especially on a new gun. Call them up and get a return authorization. They will probably replace the gun vs re-tapping.
