I noticed this in a hunting mag while waiting around the court house

here they do it for a bigger bell and increased light gathering, and allows the scope to have a big 56mm bell, but not be mounted super-high on the rifle.
Seems to me this could work with smaller bells as well, whenever you have the scope closer to the barrel, I think it is easier to get a good cheek-wield and no superbig combs are necessary.
Think it will ever pay to roll out this tech on a 3-9 or smaller? 40mm objectives etc
