Savage 99 in .308 win
Cheap Simmons scope, shooting across my body.

When I went to the sheriffs office to check in the deer, the receptionists looks up and says " hope all that blood isn't yours" I just kinda smiled and said " Scope-eye".

Pulled the scope and have not used a Simmons since, that was something like 20 years ago.

Buddy of mine got all excited that he had mounted a new scope on his .308... wanted me to sight it in for him... After he popped himself with the scope. Of course, when I was young and stupid, I was more than happy to show him what he was doing wrong...

...long story short, I should've shown him how to check for the right amount of eye relief...

I left a chunk of my forehead and a lot of blood on Barometer Mountain in Kodiak AK when I was stationed there. I held a 30-06 wearing a short relief Weaver too loosely as I laid it across an alder to steady a shot at a blacktail. Now for the punch line. I did it two years in a row. So I did what any reasonable person would do. I gave up that middleweight 30-06 for an ultralight 30-06.

I have been fortunate so far by not breaking skin. Very fortunate. I once owned a TC Encore with a 12 ga barrel that I had set up for shooting slugs for hunting at Tyndall AFB. When you pulled the trigger on a 3"magun you would go into a twilight zone of sorts, not being able to be in control and just floating in some electoplasm for a nanosecond. Heck with that.

Thus year I bought a Savage 220f in 20ga for hunting.
