Hello,

I'm looking to get a scope for my full size bushmaster (w/ carry handle) as I want to use it for some target shooting up to 200-250 yards. I know I could just use open sights, but i want a scope and i'm not terribly proficient with iron sights. I figure if i don't like it on the AR I could just mount the scope on a future rifle.

I am looking hard at either the Leupold rifleman or Bushnell elite 2-7x. Is either one of these scopes better then the other? Even? Are there other better choices out there in the $200-250 or less price range?

I would love to get a scope with target turrets for my AR-15 but I feel that may easily put me out of my price range. (I would still love to).

any suggestions or insights would be appreciated.

I'm actually beginning the same process right now for my A3 Bushy, though I'm looking more down the mil-dot route.

I've got a 16" Bushmaster Dissapator and have been working on several idea's for it. My first scope is a 6X35 rubber armored illuminated mil-dot, then I bought an ATN digital reflex scope, it's a sweet item when you need that type of targeting. Now I bought a Simmons White Tail 6.5 x 24 x 50 w/tru-plex reticle. I know there are a lot of high dollar scopes available but I was able to get this at a significant savings. It is a beautiful scope, well made and is very accurate. My short question to this long introduction is this. Where can I find a set of high turret's for E & W? I can find scopes and turret combinations all over but nobody is willing to part with just the turrets. Any idea's will be appreciated! Thank you!!

I've been very happy with the Weaver Classic scopes. I have a few on everything from AR15s, to K31s to FALs. I've found Natchez has great prices on them.

I would go with the Bushnell elite 3200 before the Leupold Rifleman. The rifleman scopes I think are made in China.

The Weaver, Bushnell, or nikon in the $200 to $300 range are going to get you more scope for the money. Do not forget Burris Either.

i have recently noticed Burris scopes, in particular the fullfield II with ballistic plex. This is at the moment the scope i am going to go with. However I may change my mind when it comes time to actually purchase.

I went with a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 scope with low profile weaver rails on my bushy (w/ carry handle).

$150 scope / $20 mounting hardware

I sighted her in and she is working like a dream.

I purchased a set of Turret knobs from a US manufacturer, there aren't many available. I was pleased that I had finally found a decent set. The story falls apart when I tried to use them. They were so incompatible (?) with my scope that it took no time at all for them to break the knob tips right off the scope. It was repairable and I was able to get a full refund. I should've done my homework the first time around. I don't recommend aftermarket turrets!

For 200 - 250 yard shooting, you certainly don't need target knobs to fiddle & diddle with!

Until you get into the very high-dollar target/sniper glass, the adjustment clicks aren't that durable to be messing with them all the time.

You should sight in a .223 at 200 yards to hit POA in the first place.

At 100 yards it is going to be shooting about 1 1/2" high, and at 300 about 8" low.

Those are pretty easy numbers to remember.
Just learn the trajectory and hold over or under when not shooting at your 200 yard sight-in distance.

Your response was right on the numbers! That's exactly what I did. I sight in at 25 yards, which puts me right on at 250 using 55 or 62 gr, high at 100 and a few inches low at 300. I'm still working on ability but it's getting better. I just wish I had a place behind the house where I could practice more often. It's a long way to the range and they're charging more than the ammo manufacturers! They need to give us poor boys' a break!! Thanks alot for your tip!

DMK:

Top looking hardware you got! Nice !:D

Can you tell us about the scope mount you got on your AR?

I believe he mention it is a weaver classic series. My guess specifically is a weaver classic v10. If that is it, it's 2-10x38. This is also the scope I ended up getting, and it is the nicest scope *I* have owned, worth probably more then the $200 or so price tag.

DMK, Which mount is that on your AR?
I've got a flat top AR (no carry handle) and a 3-9X Leupold. just looking for a good mount. don't plan on putting BUIS on this one.

eta: I think I figured out its an Armalite mount.
