Scope mounting for dummies

(Still seeking the name of that phenomenon: when the outer perimeter of the scope goes black, reducing the field of view by 1/2 or 2/3, like a little vision tunnel -- what's that called? Anybody know?
I don't know that there's a fancy term. I call it "not enough eye relief".

For precision shooting, I actually try to set up the scope so I get a very little bit of this effect when I'm in shooting position.

Keeping the same amount of black all the way around the edge insures that my eye is centered in the scope which eliminates parallax issues.
