LA....Lower Alabama, I think. The tinfoil confuses
I'm looking for a mid-range scope for an AR I'm building, less than $200. I plan on doing plinking and a little hog hunting with it. I want a scope with fairly low power range with no more than 2X low power and 8X max. I have found several like the Nikon Prostaff, Vortex Crossfire and Burris Fulfield. I also like the idea of a low power scout mount like a High-Lux ATR.
I also found a Konus Pro, but know absolutely nothing about them.

Any suggestions? All suggestions are appreciated.

I like the little 1-4 myself. Vortex is good but it may be a touch out of your price range. Could be worth if if you save up a bit for it.

I had an eotech on mine, but right now I am just using iron sights since I don't ever shoot it beyond 100 yards really. I also like how trim it is without optics. Good irons may be a worth a look?

I have used a few of the nikon scopes, specifically the 4-12 (i think thats it) buck master. They have been great scopes. They may make something similar in 3-9 or less.

Leupold VX-1 2-7x33 would be my pick, for best glass in that price range, light weight, and quality/durability.

One thing you definitely don't want if you're going to hunt with it is anything with Chinese glass, which there is a lot of at that price point.

I have had the Nikon P300 2x7 on my 300BO for about a year now. I am just getting around to playing with the reticle. It does ok on my SBR.bypu might want to give it a look.

I went cheap on mine...

I built up a 16" 300blk AR this past year in anticipation of taking it deer hunting. Having the thing work flawlessly after mashing together a bunch of different parts is quite the relief!

The entire rifle has been a budget build, so I went with budget optics, too. I grabbed a Simmons ProDiamond 1.5x-5x and cheap one piece scope mount from Amazon and slapped both on there for about ~$100 total. I've been very impressed with the clarity and brightness of it, though I haven't been afield in low light conditions yet. After an initial sighting in and shooting somewhere in the range of 40 rounds, nothing has moved or broken... yet.

My eyes are not so great, so I really appreciate being able to have the low magnification for close or faster shots, and the 5x magnification is just about right for me at 100yds. The reticle is actually really visible without being too obstructive or distracting. The only thing that gave me pause was the parallax setting of 50yds (it IS a shotgun scope, after all); however, I planning on keeping my range below 100yds, so time will tell. Going out this Saturday to see what I can do with it (and hunting in a t-shirt if the weatherman is to be believed!). I'll give an update next week.

I know the OP got a Nikon, but for anyone else that stumbles across this thread, Primary Arms makes a pretty solid low cost 1-6X scope with a .300BLK reticle.

I have one, and it's a solid optic for the money.

Well, got nothing to show for sitting up in the tree stand but some nice memories of a pleasant day. :D Oh, and this picture through the Simmons ProDiamond at 5x. The reason the pine on the right side is leaning is because the rifle was on my lap crooked while I took the picture with my phone.

There is a little bit of chromatic aberration along the edges, but it looks much better in person.

I wish I would have saw the PA before I purchased the Nikon. I may put the Nikon on another rifle and get the PA.:banghead:
I guess is always good to have another build to put it on....

I have the P300 on one of mine and don't like it all that much. The reticle is too fat and there really is no reason for that circle in the center that partially blocks the target.

I have a few guns with Bushnell AR-223 scopes on them. Much better reticle and in the same price range.

I'm running the Burris 1-4x TAC-30 on my .300Blk SBR, and it was a perfect match ammo-wise.

I discovered that zeroing the center dot @ 50yds with 220gn subs put the rounds dead-nuts-on @ 100yds using the reticle's next lower hashmark for holdover. The 30mm TAC is a bit weighty, but for this SBR's intended use (a limited range hog/deer slayer) and the optic's performance so far, I can live with it.

That's why I ditched my Nikon P300. I switched to the PA.

Update on scope

I know this is somewhat of a tangent, but it is related...

Took a small doe with my 300blk AR and the Simmons ProHunter I mentioned earlier in this thread. Worked great! Had a neck shot at 20yds with the 130gr Hog Hammer rounds, and she was down immediately. Unluckily for her, she was very distracted by the squirrels that were going crazy in the 75°F December weather!

as i didn,t need subsonic and can,t use semi auto,s for deer, i bought a rem md 7 modified by aac in 300blk at a late friends estate sale and mounted a 2x7 leupold scope on it. for a light walk around rifle that i could also use on close range deer. i loaded 17.5 win 296-125gr nosler BT and it shoots under a inch at 100 yards, that load gives no pressure signs at all and i will go a little higher as i would like to get as close to 2400fps as i can safely. my vote goes for a 1x4 or a 2x7 leupold, used or a new leupold verix-1, walmart sells the verix-1,s pretty cheap. eastbank.

I have a Leupold 2X7 Vari-X I that I picked up at a gun show for $125 on mine. The size and magnification seem just about right.

I have the Leupold VX-2 Ultralight 3x-9x 33mm LR Duplex which weighs 8.8 ounces on my 223 and my 300 BO. I had a Burris Fullfield II 4.5x-14x 42mm Ballistic Plex on my 223 for a while but that scope weighs 18 ounces. Both scope manufactures make great optics with good glass in them. Burris makes a Fullfield II 2x-7x 35mm Ballistic Plex which weighs 12 ounces that is $159.00 and ships free from Midway USA. The Leupold Ultralight is $379.99 and ships free also from Midway USA. I have been thinking about getting the Burris 2x-7x 35mm for my inline black powder rifle. All of my hunting rifles have scopes on them that have reticles like the Leupold LR Duplex or the Burris Ballistic Plex. I carry a range finder and for a given distance beyond zero I don't have to guess correct hold over since there are tick marks on the vertical below center crosshairs. I also use the Strelok+ app on my cell phone. With all the rifle, zero weather, and load data pre-entered into the app I range my target with the range finder, plug in the distance and it gives me a hold over picture...Works great on the range and have used it for precise shots on deer out to 200 yards...my bullets hit where the app told me they would. The picture is the shooting solution the app gives me for .300 BO shooting MAST Sierra 125gr Pro-Hunter @ 2075fps. Target is 8 inch circle with no wind. Rifle zero dead on @ 100 yards.
