Hoping to purchase a Magnum Research 22 WMR and am looking at scope options. I am looking for accuracy, below $300 budget and very clear (perhaps illuminated) optics; eyes are getting old! Kind of limited range options; one is 25 yards the other 50; both indoors but can occasionally get outdoors in WV and 100+ yards. Would appreciate recommendations, new technology and user experiences. Thank you. Ed

ED45 Is there a reason for a 22mag as most quality .22lrs can out shotthem in group size even out to to 100 yards very well at 200. The 17hmr as better cartridge better than the 22mag for shooting groups. F J Fedderson builds a 10/22 based rifle at a good price that capable of sub moa groups at 100 yards and match grade .22lr ammo is closer to price of 22mag ammo. Just thought if not bought yet.

Heavier 22 rifle also are easler to shot well. liter carry better in the field.

I have 2 home built 10/22 customs and 2 savage bolt rifles in .22lr in the family that all are capable of atleast sub-MOA 100 yard groups.

Scopes
Mueller sell some very well liked scope in there apv line from the 4-16 to a 8-32.

I use a , don't laugh now , bsa 30mm 6-24 mil dot scope on 2 rifles and have been very pleased with them

Check out SWFA for other scopes like MUELLER

You can big and you can go moderate sized on a scope for a .22 WMR. If you are looking for moderate sized you might want to look into shotgun scopes. Most of them are set for a parallax of 75 yards which works very nicely when shooting 50 to 100+ yards with good .22 WMR ammo. The bonus is you don't need elevation changes from 50 to 100 with the .22 WMR so no holdover reticle is necessary, unless of course you just want one.

I have an older Nikon Prostaff 2-7x32 shotgun scope with a plain duplex reticle that does very well on my .22 WMR bolt gun as seen in this thread.

The 7x is more than good enough at 50 yards, but you might want a touch more for 100 yards if you are punching small little targets. The small targets would be that much easier to see with 9x or better.

I have yet to find anything as good as the APV in it's price class. or for 100 bucks more. And as soon as I have a gun to try one on I want that simmons whitetail classic. Walk says so many good things about it.....

Hey Hardluk1, I could not agree with you more. My explanation: In my childhood which was long ago, I used to shoot 22 WMR with my Dad; it was all the rage at the time. I developed a fondness for the caliber and its only a personal preference thing.

I hope you find that best combo of bullet and rifle then. Not many to pick from atleast with a 22mag. CCI this or that and rebadged cci this or that .he he he
