Just bought a Savage Tactical 10FP in .308. Can anyone recommend a good quality scope ring base and scope rings for my Nikon. Thanks.

As far as rings go, I think one of the best deals is Burris Signature rings. The plastic inserts guarantee perfect, no hassle alignment. Also, no worries about ring marks on the scope if you ever change setups. Greg

Burris, Leupold, Weaver, Conetrol...They all work. Just my opinion, but I think the Conetrols are the most aesthetically pleasing. I have a set on my Sako, and they've done just fine for some 35 years. :) I've mostly used Weavers, and haven't ever had a problem.

Question? Does the one piece rail interfere with loading and unloading, or, cartridge extraction?

Leupold make a single piece base for right handed rifles, whereas most bases you will find are 2 piece. The 1 piece base makes it easier to align the rings which is a must to avoid damaging the scope.

I'm in a very similar position right now. Picking up my Savage 12 VLP tonight.

What rings would you guys recommend for a Nikon Monarch with a 50mm objective bell? Have my eyes on the 6-24x50, looking for a 400 yard gun or so.

Burris, Warne, Leupold are all on my list. Not sure what height it will take to just clear that scope and not be too high.

Not at all. Also, the one-piece rail is stronger and allows for more mounting positions for correct positioning for eye relief.
