What height rings work best with the Savage 10FP-LE2 in .308? The rule of thumb is to use the lowest possible height. Will Leupold low rings give the bolt enough clearance for easy operation? I plan on using a Leupold 3x9x40mm scope so the diameter of the scope itself should not be a problem. Thanks.

I have a 110 300 WSM tactical with a 3x9 40 scope set on high rings. They are close to 1" above the action and I have plenty of clearance. As you go higher you may actually decrease the clearance between the scope and the bolt handle. In my case I went with a custom oversized bolt handle that is large enough that I do not have to wrap my hand around. It is similar to a box shaped Hershey Kiss, if you will. Straight tapered sides. Could try to get a pic of mine with measurements if that would help.. May be early next week until I can get that done though. email me if you need more info

I have one medium is high enough.

Do yourself a favor though, skip the leupold mounts for this savage model and get better rings and mounts. I had the leupold one piece mount for the new savage accutrigger models and had problems with it staying attached firmly to the reciever, and I am not the only one who had trouble. Do a search on Savage Leupold mount, and you can read about my and other folks experiences. I now have weaver mounts and rings and have had zero problems after 200+ rounds fired. My scope was a Nikon 4.5-14 with adjustible objective.

I run TPS low rings on a Ken Farrell base. Plenty of clearance. I expected the scope objective to be closer to the bore, but it isn't. From what I understand, the Ken Farrell bases are designed slightly higher than other mounts (ie: Badger).

Thanks guys! You have saved me time, money, and frustration. I've been around long enough to know I should have used the search function more thoroughly.
