Hey all,
I finally bit the bullet and scoped my mosin. It's a '39 Tula parts gun with an ATI scope base and a wally world special scope. The bolt handle I did myself. It started as a grade 8 3/8" bolt that I bent and soldered into the bolt body before replacing the original knob. The stock was inletted with a dremel and a drum sander attachment. The stock is minwax dark walnut stained. She seems to be as accurate as me for the time being, which ain't saying too much. However, she will hold a sub 2" group with a shodddy rest shooting some hungarian surplus crap at 100 yds. Maybe I'll get some new ammo and see how she'll do. Not bad for a rifle that cost me all of $50.

hopefully she'll soot better with new ammo than she does now, but I'm not hoping for tack-driving here, just "minute of coyote"

I bought one that way. There isn't much support for the scope. The first time I shot it the mounts were loose and so, I had to remove and redo the whole thing. I haven't had the time to try again, but suspect the setup might be knocked out of zero fairly easily. It doesn't help that I have a big freaking BSA scope. Going to try again next month. By the way, I paid the same price as the reasenalled 91/30's are going for now. Who ever did this conversion welded the handle, flattened and swept it as well, looks like rechromed as well.

I bedded the scope base with a steel epoxy to increase contact with the receiver after hearing of mounts shooting loose. A whole buncha loctite doesn't hurt either.

My ATI scope base has a cut out on the left side then comes down to within a 32end of the receiver. I couldn't get a business card to pass through this tiny gap, but it was there. On firing there was a funny "Twang" that I believe was coming from the 2 inches that protrude behind the chamber. I took my business card smacked it with a hammer and got a corner into the space. Then with the wife's emory board sanded up some dust and put a pencil point drop of CynoAcrylite (CrazyGlue) underneath. I cut out all the excess with an exacto blade and put a drop of black paint on the fix. It's almost invisible and this stopped the ringing. If you have that same ringing sound on firing, I can't believe its good for any scope.

Thanks for the feedback, guys.
Franco, our receivers must be different, as I've got a great deal more clearance than you did, but that's a good tip that I'll keep in mind if I ever scope another.
Deth, thats funny. I'm a college student again for the moment, and I didn't realize I'd left "dinner" on the counter. But when I think of it, it makes sense to have it in the picture, because most russian products are cardboard and grease anyway, right? :)
