I was wanting to scope a new PTR and was interested in what you are seeing on these. I am starting to think the rear drum is in the way, and was thinking about replacing it with a rail mounted backup. In my case the rifle has the welded top rail. Any pics, or info on scopes and mount is appreciated. I probably will not be doing the hensoldt claw where I already have the rail. Thanks!

Go with the lowest rings that will allow the scope to clear the rear sight, and build up the comb to match.

As for what scope to use, it totally depends on the purpose. What will you be using it for?

I have a Burris MTAC 1-4x in their PEPR mount on my railed PTR. It clears the rear sight, and as a bonus, doesn't interfere with the cocking handle in the front.

These rifles don't have a ton of room for a scope, so try and use something compact.

I am not entirely familiar with the nuances of the Pic rail. I imagine there is a STANAG adaptor which would allow you to mount the Hensholdt FERO Z24 on it. I am quite pleased with that scope. It is very clear, and adequate magnification for prairie dogs to at least 400 yards.

When the Hensoldt's were going for $350-$400 they were a steal. At ~$550 they were a good buy. At the $750-$800 they command now? There are better options.

The glass is very clear on them, and they are robust, but I think some of the newer combat optics eclipse them at the price they go for. Like an ACOG.

Have a PTR-91F with MFI low profile rail and a Vortex Viper PST 2.5-10x32 FFP in Weaver Tactical X-High rings. The occular bell clears the rear sight drum by about 3/16" with the v-notch up. I used to have a 4-16x50, but due to the position of the cocking lever and the generous eye relief of the scope, I had to have my Magpul PRS stock set at max LOP just to have a reasonable cheek weld, and the rifle was awkward to handle offhand. With the 2.5-10 set almost against the cocking lever in the locked position, I can now run the LOP adjustment all the way in and have proper eye relief.
