what type of scope mount do you use on your A2 upper. can a scoped A2
be accurate with the scope so high above the barrel.
thanks

It will be mechanically as accurate, provided its mounted well, but consistent head placement to prevent parallax is much more difficult with a chin weld.

Yep, the only way I would ever mount optics on an A2 receiver would be a red dot on a cantilever mount, co-witnessed with the irons. Cheek weld is just too important to me. If you want magnified optics, a flat top receiver is the only way to fly.

If you want a low magnification scope, there are some that mount directly to the carry handle, without any rings or rail adapters. like the Trijicon ACOGs , Burris AR332, or those Colt style 4x scopes. I'm sure theres others out there.

Or if the scope you want has to use rings, perhaps try one of these:

The key here is to try to get it as low down as possible.

The Colt 4x by Hakko work very well. The old "DELTA" HBAR used a 3x9 and a special cheek riser. Plenty of A2's with ACOGs still in service.

My friend has an older Olympic AR with the fixed carry handle and a 3-9x40 scope on top of it. He has leveled all 6 deer he has shot at with it. So, it can be done. By far the best option is to swap to a flattop upper or stick with a non magnified optic on top of the carry handle.

A new stripped flat top upper is cheaper than some of those mounts. I'd just go flat top and be done with it.

Having said that, my first AR was an A2. I had a high-powered target scope mounted on it for a while. Friend of mine used that setup to shoot accurately out to 500 yds.

If you can find one. I'm looking for one of the illuminated ones myself. They're made by Japan Optics Limited. Hakko used to be just the US distributor for them. But Hakko went out of business years ago. And I don't see anyone else who imports them.
So unless you want to spend atleast $10k to make a wholesale order straight from JOL, it looks like those are out. All the other 4x Colt clones seem to be airsoft junk.
