My GSR is a left-hand model.
From reading extensive comments in various places, it appears that Ruger had some problems with incompatible steel alloys in early production which led to rather rough operation. It now seems that the problems have been solved.
My GSR, being a lefty, was built quite a while after the introduction of the model. RIGHT FROM THE BOX, the action was/is very smooth, and the trigger is a perfect, crisp 3.5 pounds.... I've never had the rifle out of the stock, which is most unusual for this ol' rifleman. It's as smooth as any Mauser in my racks, which amount to a fair number of rifles.
I cannot abide the forward-mounted sight, but my GSR seems quite content with its Redfield 3-9X mounted on the receiver. Rhis was a nod toward my aging eyes.
I LIKE this rifle!
