I went into the Evil Pawn Shop today while out on my lunch hour,,,
I'm always on the lookout for a nice used .22 revolver,,,
This time it was a rifle that caught my eye.

A near perfect Crickett .22 bolt single-shot kid-sized rifle,,,
It's the synthetic stock "My First Rifle" model,,,
I asked him how much and he said $85.00,,,
That's the "out the door with tax" price.

I have several friends with young children,,,
I thought this would be a nice gun to own for them.

The smallest rifle I own is an H&R Sportster with the youth stock,,,
Even that rifle is a bit big and heavy for small kids,,,
I think this rifle will be perfect for them.

My nephew started out with one when he was 5. His must have a 12 lb. trigger. He had to use 2 fingers to pull it.

They're great for kids.
My daughter got one for her 6th birthday.
That's been 4 years ago. Now she's more interested in Coach handbags than guns, sadly. :)

I still got my first .22 I got when I was 6, single shot "Sears and Roebuck" Model 41 made by Marlin for Sears. someday I will give it to my best friends grandson.

Paul, your daughter is too cute for words,,,

Paul, your daughter is too cute for words,,,
She may be more into purses now,,,
But that grin was genuine. ;)

I took it to the range after work and tried it out,,,
I really had to scrunch up to use the sights,,,
But I was popping bottles at 25 yards.

I have enough "me sized" rimfire rifles to suit my needs/tastes,,,
This one is just to have for when I can take a kid shooting,,,
I had been using a Beretta NEOS Carbine for them,,,
I think the single-shot Crickett is a better trainer.

Anyways, for $85.00 out the door,,,
I couldn't let a deal like that pass.

I still have my chipmunk same idea as a cricket same size but was just made before the cricket came out. I will be giving it to my daughter in the next couple years. great score by the way.

I need to pick one up for my 19 month old daughter but I can't seem to find one for under $120. Every time I've found a cheap one there's no money in my budget for it.

I want a cricket for myself. LOL. I have been looking for a month or so. The current ammo situation has me thinking a case of 22 shorts and a cricket could be big cheap fun.

Good purchase.

Sort of related, Mossberg makes a really small child friendly 410 pump shotgun (was either their 505 or 510 model) with a 10.5 to 11.5" lop (by a spacer) and a 22 inch vent rib barrel with a fixed mod choke. Same controls as bigger ones. I saw it at a recently opened Dicks Sporting Gooods. I didn't know such a thing existed.

nice purchase....we bought one for our grandsons first rifle....he's long since outgrown it but it works great for the up-and-coming grandkids. We start them on cap guns (that stay in the safe with the other firearms) and they graduate to bb/pellet guns, .22's and then centerfire. we don't have a grandchild under 14 that hasn't fired our .50BMG.

One thing is for certain,,,

One thing is for certain,,,
That danged bolt lock is coming off.

The lock engages without the key,,,
It's in a very convenient place to accidentally lock it.

Anyone ever remove one before?

Walking through walmart today, i saw a crickett. I am now the owner of that crickett. I will soon shoot up all of the 22 shorts i have and can find. My kids and i will add this to our 22 fun collection; Glenfield mod 60, S&W15-22 and buckmark.

Easy as pie to remove. I searched the net for the size of the nut that holds the lock in the stock, walked out into the garage and grabbed the right size from the "extended" bit pile and took it out in a matter of a few minutes.

I forgot the correct size, but a quick search should yield you the same results.

I got my Crickett about a month ago. It happens to be settled in a very nice little cut of figured walnut. I figure, with all the hype around takedown rifles, this little gun makes them obsolete. Its the size of a takedown after they have been pulled apart and its lighter/just as accurate.

Whoever owned it before me,,,

Whoever owned it before me,,,
Dialed those little peep sights in very well.

At 25 yards I shot at 20 12-ounce water bottles,,,
I only missed a bottle one time,,,
For me that's great.

It's really too small for me to use effectively,,,
I had to scrunch up like an inch-worm,,,
But it went bang and hit the target.

$85.00 well spent I would say,,,

I bought one about 4 years ago at a LGS that was going out of business- 4 years ago- go figure, boy did he mistime that move! Anyway I paid $100 for it and gave it to my gran kids. First the boy, who had been shooting first the RED RYDER I learned to shoot with in the 50s and then the NEW RED RYDER I bought him when the original dropped to less than 50 fps. HAHA I mean you could actually SEE that BB going to the target! My son and I laughed until we cried over that! Then the grangirl.
Its a very accurate little rifle- my first shot when I got it home was dead on at 20 yards. Heck I thought I had missed the whole target only to find it smack dab in the center of the black!
You made a great buy!!! Enjoy!

I finally got to us it to purpose,,,

I finally got to us it to purpose,,,
My co-worker has a nine year old son,,,
We went to the range after work last evening.

You would have thought we took the kid to the moon,,,
It was absolutely fantastic what that Crickett and one box of 22 LR did.

While I may never fire the little rifle again,,,
It's now a very welcome addition to my little arsenal.

Again I say,,,
$85.00 well spent. :D

For the price, they are great little guns. I bought one awhile back to introduce my wife to rifle shooting. She is 5'1 and it fit her perfectly. I used to like shooting it as well...it was plenty accuracte for plinking with the peep sight. The company actually makes a longer, adult sized stock that is a direct swap with the standard youth stock. I wanted to buy one but never got around to it.

Sold the thing eventually, now i wish i had kept it in the back of the safe instead.
