Was notified by GunBroker today that I had the winning bid for a .45 Colt New Frontier. Gun is 7 1/2", used but in excellent condition. Been looking for a .45 for some time now, was wanting a 5 1/2" but at such a bargain I still have money in the budget for cutting the barrel back.

I am feeling pretty good today!

I have found that a lot of bidders on Gunbroker don't like long barrels... :uhoh:

For this the Old Fuff is both thankful and delighted.

Here are my current New Frontiers. Gun on left is .45 Colt, remaining two are .44 Specials:

The gun I bought today is a .45 Colt with a 7 1/2" barrel. It is my thinking to have the barrel cut down to 5 1/2". Already been talking to my gunmith about that. My 'smith is Memphis 'smith Keith Warner.

Bob, Congrats on the new toy. I'm sure you'll like the gun but I KNOW you will like the cartridge. I hope you reload. The 45 Colt is my second favorite cartridge to load for, after the 38 special. Very versatile.

Sorry- but those sights just detract from the svelteness that was a SAA. Just my opinion. Now, I wouldn't mind one with a 7 ½ " barrel that I could mount a scope on for hunting.

Love those .44 Special New Frontiers! Always thought they were very elegant looking while still maintaining the classic lines of the SAA.

Bobwhite,

Once I saw those gorgeous 44 Specials (not that I'm envious!), I realized you had to be a reloader.

Like the grips on the Ruger! I put Pachmyers on mine to fit big hands. Mine prefers 8 grs Unique with a 255 LSWC bullet or approx. 30 grs of Goex 3F with the same bullet when in a black powder mood.

When you get a chance to shoot the Colt, I would be curious to hear your thoughts on the Colt New Frontiers compared to the Ruger Blackhawk.

Putting a scope on a New Frontier just wouldn't be right, at least not to my aesthetic liking. Sort of comparable to putting some aftermarket spoiler on a vintage Corvette. It might improve performance somewhat but it sure wouldn't look right.
