Out hunting Thursday, I bagged a big doe and then a smaller one. The remarkable aspect was a 100+ yd shot early in the day. Quite a few deer were moving through the trees up on a ridge across the creek from me. I set my eyes on a large doe and followed her as she moved along the ridge. For just a second, she stood in the clear. I set the cross-hairs at the top of her back and let fly with a Buckhammer. Usually I tune up for hunting season shooting at 50 yds. But this was probably just over 100 yds. The doe was recovered up on top of the ridge, shot up in the back. I knew Buckhammers were good out to 100 yds or more, but seeing is believing. Not to brag, but I was quite impressed with myself. I thought it was a good shot, but at such a long range, it could have been a miss. But everything seemed to come together. Later I made a shot on a smaller doe, probably 50 yds. It went down about 10 yds from the hit. One shot, one kill on two does. I use a Remington Express Magnum 870 with a 2x7 33 mm Leupold VX1 shotgun-muzzleloader scope. For ammo, it's Remington Buckhammer 12 ga. 2 3/4", 1 1/4 oz. I use a rifled slug barrel with a cantilever scope mount. Another hunt is scheduled for later next week. I really like my 870 and want to install the Shurshot stock. I have the old factory stocks and the recoil pad is as hard as a rock. I've heard the Shurshot is a great all-around upgrade. If anyone has an opinion, I'd like to hear it.

Encouraging to hear how well they work. I just bought 5 boxes day before yesterday to try in a rifled 20ga. We've got about a month and a half of hog season left here on the WMA we hunt and we can not use rifles now that the deer season is closed.

Been using buckshot the last few years but am not it's biggest fan, even though only one of about a dozen hogs shot with it has not been recovered. But then every single one shot with a rifle has ended up on the grill.

I'll be very happy if they group in a couple of inches at 50 yards.

I shoot the Buckhammers out of my 870 Magnum SPS and it loves them. I havent shot anything with them yet, but I'm sure the exit hole must be impressive. They kick like a bastard too, I love 'em. Good shooting and congrats!

They are a good round it would seem in most ever rifled barrel unlike alot of these fancy slaboted rounds. All of use in camp ended up shooting them and they still work well to 150 yards just need to practice.

Scored again! About 75 yds. with a head shot on a button buck that was limping along on two broken rear legs. I am very impressed with these rounds. That is what I will keep for my deer hunting.

Here's an opinion, Congratulations, Well Done, Good Shooting, Wish it could've been me!

Amen to that... 100 yards is a long good shot with a slug - those buckhammers are apparently impressive on thinskinned game - can't wait to try one from my rifled barrel on a deer or hog.

PS - thank you goodness you put that little buck out of its misery - well done again!
