Thinking about getting one of these. Anybody got one that they want to talk about?

I've got an M38 Mosin Nagant and have been thinking about getting one of these setups and taking it hunting. Thinking about one of the no drill mounts, not sure about scopes. Anyone have an opinion on the best mount or pistol scopes versus "scout" scopes.

Most pistol scopes provide long eye relief and won't work well in a scout rifle configuration. The one exception to that seems to be the Weaver's - they support at little as 10" of eye relief. Leupold makes a nice 2.5x scout scope that normally retails for around $250.

Thanks for the info. I can hit pretty good up to about 50 yards with the open sights, but the lightness of the gun, and the balance, and the power of the round makes me want to take it hunting some and I'd want to put at least some kind of a scope on there in case I have a longer shot.

Welcome to THR! Glad to see you here.

I have a Tasco 2x mounted on a Scout-type mount. It works pretty well.

I Bought A Mosin M38 Carbine Recently

I read many different comments on various forums that the Mosin Nagant was a great rifle for the money and that the ammo was cheap. So I went to my local firearms dealer and took a look at one. He had few nice ones especially the one I purchased. I thought about mounting a scope on the rear sight but I changed my mind. I decided on a Leupold VX-I 2-7X33mm. I ordered an Advanced Technology mount from www.centerfiresystems.com. The kit all together with the weaver mounts were $52.99. Yeah the kit does require some drilling and tapping so I have to find a Gunsmith in my Area that can do some nice work. I know when it is said and done this rifle is going to have some serious deep range potential

I can't help with the Mosin but I mounted one of the scope mounts that replaces the rear sight on a Yugo SKS, added an Aimpoint and it works great. Plenty accurate enough out to 100 yards even in the SKS.
