I just bought a Marlin 1894C in .357. I want to put a scout scope on it, and found the mount at Natchez. Can I put a handgun scope on it, or is the eye relief too long? What is the difference between a scout scope and a handgun scope, except about $150.00?;)

The commercial scout scope mounts for the Marlin leverguns are close enough to the receiver that very few pistol scopes will work. (The Weaver 2x will, but most any other that I've tried will not.) Your best recourse is simply to get a Leupold or Burris scout scope.

A quality scout scope costs no more than the equivilent quality pistol scope.

With the mount on the gun try the pistol scope and see if you have a full field of view this assuming you have the pistol scope. If not measure the eye relief from the mount on the gun and try some scopes at a gunstore using that measurement. If its a decent store they should help by letting you set the scope in the bases and see which is best. I bought a burris and am not happy with it mostly due to the retical and turrets not being at right angles.
