Most of the commercial Scout mounts I have seen (own two) are for specific rifles and present mounting problems.

A number of years back I discovered a Weaver 92A one piece base would fit on a barrel that had a .800" diameter about four inches long with FOUR screws and have subsequently mounted them on about a dozen rifles for myself and friends.

A couple years ago I made another discovery. Weaver 60A base will mount on a barrel with .675 diameter. This base has three mounting holes close spaced (.950" spacing for the 3) and the fourth hole 1.225" forward of the first three which makes it nice for mounting a scope on a tapered barrel.

I have mounted one of these so far on the P14 conversion below. I kept the threaded end of the P14 barrel and drilled and tapped it for about four inches. I then took the front end off a 03A3 drill rifle that had the barrel plugged and welded in the chamber, cut off the chamber area leaving me a new 2 groove barrel about 19" long and I screwed them together and once located I applied Loctite to the threads, chambered it in 303 Brit again and built the below rifle to be utilized as a walking rifle or a rifle that was handy inside a vehicle as the PO had cut the buttstock, installed recoil pad and whole rifle is 37 3/4" long.
