I voted yes. But for one reason only. STUPIDITY. I know accidents will happen and that a gun is a tool and tools will get scratches and dents. What I can't stand is when some idiot stands a gun against a bumper of a trunk and when the closing of door causes the gun to fall scratching or denting it. Or some similiar act!! Stupidity I hate, especially in myself!:banghead:

The first scratch usually hurts a little after that I'm good
Yeah, most of my 1911 were bought used, and most came with the idiot mark. Some were lighter than others, but they were still there.

I think I got one or two that didnt have it. I put it there before I left the store just to get it over with. They're all stainless, so if I decide to sell one all I have to do is blast it and it looks new again.

I voted 'it depends'. If I did something stupid to cause the scratch it annoys me everytime I look at it. If a blemish just seems to appear I figure oh well, it just comes from use.

All my guns are shooters so, for the most part, i don't mind normal wear & tear but I do have a few guns that I know would be tough to replace that I do baby more than others

My firearms are tools/gear. If you use it, it will show wear. I don't intentionally abuse them (too much) or let them corrode and rust, but nicks, scratches and other wear marks are fine. I am not a collector and will not likely sell any unless my financial situation becomes dire or I go through some major change of life philosophy, so the appearance is of minimal concern to me.

On a gun I purchased brand new, it does bother me a little, because it means at some point I did something improper in my handling of a firearm, even if it was merely dropping a cleaning rod on the disassembled slide.
With my Mosins, the scratches and dents are PART of the gun, part of the scars that made an old warrior who he is today. They were EARNED, and should be treasured.
On my Vetterli-Carcano, I'm pretty sure the scratches and dents are structural by now.

Honest use Vs. abuse.

If it's honest use, I've got absolutely no problem with it. If it's abuse, there's a deeper problem.

I took a class past spring with my carry gun (is there any other way?), a very worn 1911. So worn, it actually got comments from the instructors who carry a handgun on a daily basis themselves. I have no intention of refinishing it. It's since been retired to range status, I have a custom built pistol in hand now. I'll likely never refinish this $2,000 pistol either. It's gonna be honest use.

Heirlooms are a different matter, but shouldn't be "used" anyway. Take them carefully to the range and back home. If it doesn't warrant that care, it's not an heirloom, just use it.

I have both my Grandfather's shotgun and my Great Grandfather's shotgun. They are heirlooms. G.G.'s can't be used anyway, it's a damascus.

I have a few scratches and dings - my wife says they add to my character. I have the same philosophy about firearms ;)

I don’t own a gun that doesn’t have any scratches. They are tools plain and simple. Although I was a bit upset when I was reaching for my brand new RIA 1911 on the top shelf of my safe, it fell and bounced between my Mossberg 500 and my WASR AK. The Mossberg received a couple of deep scratches and so did the 1911, the AK was not harmed as they cannot be hurt :neener:

The only guns I "baby" are a couple of family heirlooms. I have about a grand into refinishing two guns worth less than $100 each. I still take both to the range, but I am pretty anal about taking care of them.

My other guns are tools that were purchased to be used, but not abused. Sure I like nice looking guns, but little scratches and dings don't bother me on these guns.

i don't own any collectable guns, so dings and wear dosen't bother me, i run my guns hard, and they are gonna get that way, now with that said i don't intintially go out of my way to ding them up but if they get that way the so be it. plus wear shows that the gun is used and not babied.
