Well in my haste at Gander Mountain, and digging through their mess of boxes of primers, I bought large rifle magnum primers when I meant to buy large rifle primers for my 22-250. I normally buy CCI 200 primers, but picked up the 250's by mistake.

I haven't checked but I would assume Gander Mountains return policy is the same as with power, as in no returns.

Can I adjust my load to still use these primers or am I stuck with trying to sell them?

No reason why not, drop your powder charge down and start over working up a load. This will also give you an option of load data if primers ever become hard to get.

You may find they perform better than what you were using. My heavy varmint .243 rifle always shoots tighter groups with CCI 250's over 200's using ball propellant... Use them with complete confidence regardless of powder type using std work-up rules.

I agree with the first two posts. Some powders actually perform better with magnum primers especially in cold weather. Like said above, work up to your load again in half grain increments to see if pressure signs show up. IMR 4064 is one powder I like to use large rifle magnum primers for my 30-06 even though the loading manuals call for large rifle primers. BW

You're better off with the mag primers. A friend of mine simplified all of his primer stock by purchasing only magnum primers for everything.

A third to JC's advice.

I have a separate load workup for my 30 cals that uses Magnum primers.... Just do your trigger-work, and you should have no issues.

Look at it as "homework from history" Nothing wrong with retracing your steps once in a while....you might be surprised what you find :)

The only noticable difference I've ever observed, was when using standard primers in place of magnum applications. So i think your going to be just fine with your circumstances, as long as you use sensible work up procedures.

As everyone stated, rework your loads. At least you realized you screwed up, I got an 1k order of small pistol primers inside a Small Rifle Primer brick, sealed from the factory. Sheer luck I caught that one. Be safe-

Like said above drop back and work up a new load using the magnum primers. Depending upon what power you're using you might even like them better in the 22-250.

I had the same thing happen to Me.
I asked the Guy at Gander Mountain for some regular large Rifle Primers and when I got Home I noticed They were magnum Primers.
My fault for not checking before leaving the Store.

I like flashhole's answer the best :D

Had sorta the samething happen to me at Cabela's (which is 75 miles away).
I asked for small rifle primers & they gave me small MAGNUM.
It was for my AR-15 & many respondents said they intentionally buy magnum.

Anyway, as everyone else said, just start low & work-up
