I had the 40 caliber version. The trigger was terrible. The magazines were nice. It shot every brand of ammo I stuck in it.

The triggers are tweakable. The trigger on the SW I posted is much better than when it was new and the adjustments were simple. Just change one spring and cut a coil off the second. No more scrunch. But there is nothing to do to improve the long pull and long reset. I guess the striker is not preset very much so the long pull is just the way it is and always will be.

I've purchased a couple of the SD40VEs and have never had a problem, one of them I replaced the sites with some from one of my M&Ps and replaced the springs and polished the trigger, I think that is worth the $25 and 1hr. My only complaint is the price of mags, I rarely see them less than $28, sometimes the 9mm will be $20.

Found these on CDNN Sports. $15 each. Thats not too bad.

My co
In the end I doubt I would do anything to the slide. Just live with the silver color. I just wondered if there was a spray paint durable enough to coat the slide. A cerakote would be more than it was worth on a gun in this price range. I looked on Brownells but didn't see anything I would buy.

My cousin used flat black exhaust header paint on his SD40, it gives a feel similar to a parkerized finish I believe. I think I'd have taped it off and used an aerosol type bed liner from the auto parts store.

**Note that I've never tried any of those so I can't say how solvents affect them as far as gun cleaners. Some of them are pretty nasty.**

Thanks. The exhaust paint might work. I don't know about the bed liner paint. I think I will let someone else try that one and post the results.:uhoh:

I’ve seen more than a few of these carried by security guards and officers in law enforcement agencies such as campus police and mass transit police.

I bought my very first one from an Arlington Tx police officer. I am guessing it was a duty gun or maybe his personal off duty gun. It was a good shooter and I don’t remember why I ever sold it. But I did pay too much for it. IIRC I paid him $325. Oops!

A north Georgia store (Alexanders) regularly runs the 9mm for $200 and the 40s for $230, at auction I was able to get a sd40ve for $175 and paid $225 for M&P 40 and 45s, Glocks usually run $50-75 more than the M&Ps. My son-in-law purchased a Sd40ve at the auction and uses it for a "by the door" gun. I think the SDs are a good value handgun and works great. I like the idea of being able to replace the sights with ones from the M&P and replace the trigger springs from a couple of mfr. I use the same holsters for both.

I bought one of those only in.40 ca. It functioned well, was as accurate as you'd expect. If I remember correctly I paid 299.00 and got two mags with it. After a couple years I sold it to a workmate and bought my 1911. I think the S&W is a good buy. hdbiker

OK I just picked up my new SD9VE. I like the new grip texture. I like the dovetailed front sight. And the trigger? Compared to the trigger on the SW version I posted a picture of earlier its fantastic. No its not anything like the trigger on my model 28 but while its a little heavy its smooth, no crunch and doesn't have the rubbery feel the SW trigger has. I think its a step in the right direction. And the slide? guess its going to stay silver colored. Its not as bad as I thought it would be.

Best of all, made in the USA.

SD's came about after Glock sued and won against S&W over the early model, their decent pistols for what they are, remember looking them over at the amour class they put on, the only real difference in them and the early Gen-2 Glocks was that silly white puff of cotton inside the trigger spring, and of course the trigger blade itself

OK I took the new gun apart and saw the "puff of cotton" in the trigger spring. That is strange but I guess it must dampen a spring noise. I will leave it alone.

I had one, after some trigger work and removing a spring it was pretty good. I won a match with it.

I would like to find a deal on one of these in 40 S&W. I for one thought the 40 S&W was one of the best SD rounds to have came about. It puzzles me so many have lost interest in it. I just checked Aim Surplus and every 40 they had has been sold out. I guess somebody still likes them.

I don't know what price range your looking for. I used the search feature at gun.deals & about the best price I saw was $299.99 for a SD40VE with a crimson trace weapon light. I believe it was at Sportsmans Outdoor Super Store. Not sure if shipping was included or not.

I am hoping I can find a cast off and unloved used SD40 for sale cheap. Right now anything that shoots is getting snatched up especially if the price is low. I am patient and can wait. A deal will come along and I have cash ready to buy.
