I see that the LGS has the S&W SD9VE's for $305 - kinda in my price range. Years ago - I bought a Glock 19 barrel at a gun show - hoping it would work in my (long since sold G23). I still have the G19 barrel - I heard that the Glock and old S&W Sigma barrels were interchangeable. Does anyone know if the newer SD9 series still use a Glock-spec barrel? TIA ...

From what I've gathered on the web the 9mm barrels never swapped.

On the old full-size guns the barrels seemed to swap ok (from reports) between a Glock 22 and a SW40F.

There's a vid on youtube that shows a guy swapping a Glock 23 and a SW40VE barrel. The Sigma barrel worked in the Glock when manually cycling the slide (he didn't fire it), but with the Glock barrel in there the SW40VE slide wouldn't pull back.

Based on these reports I PERSONALLY wouldn't try it - and I'm personally really yearning for a .357 SIG barrel for my SD40VE but it's not worth trying IMHO. With them being as close as they are though I'm surprised none of the aftermarket companies have started making SD/Sigma barrels.

Also - unless that G19 barrel is threaded - I'm not sure what you're actually hoping to get from swapping the barrels. Swapping one 9mm barrel for another one doesn't seem very helpful.

mg - Thanks for the info – have you got quite a few rounds through your SW40? Would you recommend it and any problems or issues? Thanks ...

I've got several hundred rounds through it. I've had issues with Federal American Eagle ammo but it seems to be wearing in.

The good thing is that it's a budget pistol and available in .40S&W if you want one of those. If you just want a 9mm I'd look at the Ruger 9E.

I was looking at mine

9 Smith and .40 Glock and while marveling at the similarities - like the slide rails allow one to go on the other until operational bits interfere - I started looking at the barrels as well - no go.
I know, they wouldn't function even if they did fully slide on, just interesting-blatant.

Saw a post on a forum where someone took a 9mm
barrel and converted it to .357 Sig using a chamber
reamer. Apparently they had success with it. Would
probably need to run the .40 S&W mags though.

All the Best,
D. White

Tried it just out of curiosity.

No.

But why would you want to. The SD9VE is a good shooter just like it comes out of the box.
