Hello all. I was wondering if anybody knew anybody in the SE Iowa area, or IA-MO-IL tri state area that refinishes and fixes old firearms. I have an ancient bolt action .22 from my grandfather that his fam had during the Depression. It sat out in the garage for 60 years before it was given to me. No markings at all. Looks to just be a cheap random rifle, but I'd love to refinish and fix it to give to my boy someday. If anyone knows anybody in the area who does work like this, could you please point me in their direction? Thank you!

I know a guy in Waterloo that does stocks - which you could probably do yourself. Not as nice as he can, but I'm guessing that old rifle never was a showpiece, and never did have 1k worth of wood on it.

You might be able to do a fair bit yourself. Have you tried to get any rust off it? What is its condition now?

There was just a thread yesterday I think about a guy that was going to do some smithing over by the Quad Cities. I don't know about his credentials, or if he is set up for reblueing. blackDdefense is his name.

There are folks around who will reblue your rifle for you, but you would need to send it to them.

Good on you for doing that. I'm sure he will treasure it. Will you start a thread with before and after pics when you do it?

Craftguard in Waterloo refinishes firearms. A Waterloo gunsmith told me that they do good work and that he has sent guns out to them before. Here is their website

Tim the Student: Would you mind PMing me the name of the guy that does stocks?

Depending on just how far south you are, Brian at M&M Pawnbrokers in Davenport might be a good option. The guy knows his stuff, but I don't know what he does for refinishing.
