A female friend has an old Sears & Roebuck Firearm that she describes from memory ( hazy ) as a lever action carbine with Ranger series and a patent date of 1915 on it. I went to google and the faq farm but could not nail down a list. Does anyone know of a site where I can get a definitive list of firearms manufactured for Sears under the "Ranger series" moniker...? I did read that everyone from Stevens to Marlin to Savage made guns for them. Thanks in advance...

The best, and the one most other sources merely reprint is the cross reference list at Gun Parts Corporation.

Look on the right side of the home screen for the cross reference.

While not totally complete, it is the best.

Keep in mind that Sears often sold the gun under the "Sears" name, the "Ranger" name, and the J.C. Higgins name.
So, although YOUR gun may have the "Ranger" name on it, it may be listed under one of the other.

The best thing would be a decent picture of the receiver and action, showing markings. Second best would be a post with all the markings plus any other info, such as caliber, magazine type, etc.

FWIW, the GPC cross reference list doesn't show any lever action rifles under the "Ranger" trade name, but that list is not definitive.

I have seen Marlin Mod. 336s in 30-30 and 35 Remington that had Sears/Ted Williams markings. I believe both also had Marlin marklings (smaller) somewhere on the barrel as well.

I'd go out on a limb and say its probably a Marlin 336 or possibly a Winchester 94, but definately not a Savage 99.

Thanks...

to all that have responded. My friend will be digging it out for me to inspect...and I'll post my findings.
