My daughter is an October baby so last year I offered to take her shooting for her 18th birthday. She went but I had to sweeten the deal by getting some zombie targets for entertainment value.

This year we repeated the trip and took mainly single action revolvers and lever action rifles. I also got some bigger targets. To counter this, the rifles only had iron sights.

Rifles:
Marlin 336 in 30-30 with cast bullet target loads and Williams aperture sights behind a Skinner Patridge sight blade.

Henry H001 with Aguila Super Extra and Norma Tac target ammo and user filed and zeroed factory sights.

Keltec Sub2000 with Berrys bullet target loads with zeroed factory sights. This was for research, as I had 2 magazines to test.

Pistols:
Ruger 6.5” barreled Blackhawk and 38 Special cast target loads.

Heritage 4.75” 22 revolver with Norma Tac target ammo.

S&W Victory 22 with Holosun red dot and Norma Tac ammo. Research again for the new ammo type.

S&W Shield 1.0 with 147 grain RMR HMW. Also for research, as I’ve not tried this load in this pistol.

These are larger targets from today. The top was from 50 yards with the Sub2K, 336, and H001. I started with body shots from the Sub2K but they were not effective. We had to move to head shots but the Henry didn’t have enough oomph so the 336 had to deliver the final shot. Thumbs up to Acme Bullet company for a cast bullet that outshoots nearly all jacketed bullets I’ve tried.

The second one got too close for comfort at about 5 yards on the pistol range. I tried some disarming shots with the Shield and Victory, but he held on to that cleaver like grim death.

He nearly got my daughter but didn’t break the skin. He just made her mad. She unloaded with the Heritage and Blackhawk to the body, “pelvis” (ahem), and head. The coup de grace was the last shot with the Blackhawk right between the eyebrows.

Sounds like fun .

We hosted a tournament in late October one year and we made it a zombie themed shoot. One of the guys found a deal on a stack of plastic zombie targets that oozed green zombie goo when shot.

We had a pretty good turnout for that tournament and folks had fun. Glad to see that we weren’t the only ones who got into the Halloween spirit and took out a few zombies .

Stay safe.

I wish I’d saved or found more wadcutter loads for the Blackhawk. Those would have made awesome holes on the pistol range.

Research results are in.

All three magazines ran without issue in the Sub2K. One OEM Glock 33 round, a Magpul 27 round, and a Magpul 17 round that came with it.

The Victory did not like the Norma Tac 22 ammo. It had more jams than normal. Accuracy was fine though.

The Shield ran the RMR/HS-6 loads fine but wasn’t as accurate as I’d hoped. I need to shoot more and run a few through my M&P9 to see where to go with that load.
