i have a gazillion safes and containers suitable for transporting handguns ... but ...

i'd love your thoughts on securing long guns (encased and locked such that is secure and out of sight) in a pickup truck, either in the cab or in the bed (I have a cap on it).

i understand you can get lockable toolboxes for the bed ... but i have a cap on mine.

thanks for the input in advance.

p.s. a bit more color: i frequently travel (and stop in - non-continuous trip) to places where my handguns are verboten (NY state etc.) ... but long guns and carbines are perfectly legal.

One of these maybe? http://www.tuffyproducts.com/truckbox/115.html

Throw a blanket or whatever over it and you wouldn't see anything, especially with the topper on.

I have a locking diamond plate toolbox behind the cab for long guns. I have used it when moving and wouldn't entrust my most prized posessions to the movers.

What about a plain, locking hard plastic case? Do guns with trigger locks in soft cases count as "locked"?

I carry my long guns in a traditional gun rack which has suction cups attached to the rear window inside of my pickup truck. Of course I also have 2% window tinting that does not allow for anyone to see inside of my vehicle; I need this kind of privacy driving around Atlanta.

I have a cap on my pickup, and a "tool box" by a company called slide systems. A slide mounts on the pickup rails and then the cap goes on. The box can then be slid from the front of bed to back or positioned in between.
A threaded pin with a special allen wrench secures it in. A lock could possibly be used. The model box I have is called a sportsman, the top which lifts up has waffle foam and is designed for guns, fishing rods ect. The bottom 3/4 has a fold down door and is just a big open box for whatever. This system does shorten my 8' bed to about 6' useable, however the bottom portion of the box does detach for removal so you could stack 8' lumber about 24-26" high.
