Can I carry an AR in a soft case behind the front seat of a standard cab pickup?

I have a lockable cap over the bed,but think the rifle would be more "out of sight" and secure in the cab. I'd keep mags and ammo in a box in the back.

I do have my Ohio CHP, but don't think that would cover the rifle in a case.

Thank you UJ

I think that's OK in Ohio but can't quote the law saying so. I'd search Ohio laws to be sure. In Michigan no long guns aloud unless you are on your way to the range, shop or some other legal intended purpose.

Ohio:Vehicle carry of a rifle and shotgun by anyone,is limited to a weapon that is unloaded and in plain view with its action open.
The firearm may also be secured in a gun rack that is visible from outside the vehicle or in a closed commercial gun case.AR is okay.

According to my ATF book of state laws (2006), it's OK as long as you have it in a closed box or container, in a compartment that can only be reached by leaving the vehicle, in plain sight in a gun rack, or in plain sight with the action open. Sounds to me like you're covered.

Depends on your state. Could be iffy in NC, unless the case was locked (otherwise you could be accused of carrying a concealed rifle).
