I've been looking for a 4" stainless Security Six to add to my collection for 5 years. My criteria was not to be in a huge hurry (already have 2-6" models) and not to pay too much to get one. On Sunday my search ended. Five minutes after entering a local show I spotted my prize on a guy's table (not a dealer, just a fellow paring down his collection) The gun was ANIB and the price was fair at $425.00. All I need now is the snubby version to complete my quest before I start looking for something else I don't really need.

Probably the best "working gun" around, and with the demise of the Smith M19/66 the handiest and most durable. I would minimize the use of 125 gr. Magnums to reduce wear on the forcing cone but otherwise it should outlast you. I trust mine (and I have more than one) more than any other firearm I own. Period.

I bought a 4" stainless SS in 1977. I put thousands of rounds through it including lots of my handloads in .38 and .357 and lots of hot .357 factory ammo. There has never been any problems with it and it remains as tight and accurate as when I took it home in 1977. I have found it to be a much more durable revolver than my old S&W M19. I never grew fond of the GP100 that replaced it and my old Security Six would be the one I'd keep if I could only have one handgun. I'd like to find another Security/Service/Speed Six in the 2.5" version someday...

Congrats!

There is a 4" blued sec 6 with the original box/papers, cleaning kit, dated 1972. Comes with An extra set of target grips. Looks hardly used. They want $350 out the door. Yall think I should pounce on it? I already have one like it and afraid it wouldn't get shot due to being so nice since mine is a beater. What do yall think?

Now you need the Security Six with fixed sights, from the early 70,s. :D The quest never ends. I had a 4" blued I carried for a few years outta high school, of course I sold it along the way. A bit harder to find now but also worth a bit more.

haha, Well I walked in to the shop to buy it today after reading the posts and someone else had already picked it up!!! Guess I let a good deal get away. :) Thus far I have a 4" Speed six, a 6" security six, and a 4" police service six. I'll just say I let this one go to a new happy home for someone else to enjoy!

I sold my smith k frames and bought ruger sixes!!! Hail ruger! Though I do love my smith n frame model 28.

PS I let a 3" Sec 6 for $350+tax get away as well. I just couldn't think of any practical reason to buy it. Now if it was a speed six!!!! :D

I have a blued 2 3/4 inch Security Six and a blued 4 inch Service Six. Both are as tight as the day I bought them (in the 70's). You cannot go wrong with the Ruger Six family of wheel-guns.

I just insured my sixes, but I don't think they'd be very easy to replace. Yet just a decade ago you could get them for real cheap.

Update! After taking my new toy to the range last week I was sitting in our range clubhouse and mentioned I would now be on a quest for a 2 3/4" stainless Security Six. Another member overheard me and said he had such an animal and would let it go for a price. So, as of yesterday I now have all three barrel lengths in my collection. Hmm, what do I put my sights on next?

I was one of those people who liked the Security Sixes when they were inexpensive. I think the most I ever paid for one was $136.
I have 4 ,2 3/4", two 4" and a 6", all stainless. I carried the one 4" for years as a duty weapon. I still have them all and no reason to get rid of any of them. The actions could be polished enough to make then rival any comp gun.
