See any parallels here?

I was just readin ghtis story on pit bulls. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090126/ap_on_re_us/banning_breeds
It's funny how the same questions which arise in addressing gun laws also arise when addressing pit bulls. People just can't seem to get it in their heads that it's not the gun, it's not the dog, but it's the person controlling it which causes the problem. This has been done over and over many times, but I just needed to vent. When will "they" learn that more gun laws are not the answer?

hey guess what ??? after a couple of pittbull (and other dogs) attacks in Switzerland, they voted a law, and now you need a PERMIT to get such a dog (dog classified as dangerous like Pitts, Rottweilers, etc...)

Now, for the stupidity and irresponsabilty of a couple of people, a whole coutry is being "punished"..

I'm pretty sure there is a law suit that is similar going on for letter openers by me.
Apparently some psycho used one in a muder case and they are now pushing to get those
deadly weapons out of the hands of all criminals. I can't believe I have one of those
in my home right now with my young son around. What was I thinking......:neener:

Seriously though when stupid people get ahold of certain items anything can happen.
All it takes is a couple eggheads to ruin it for everybody. What about the thousands of
good pit bulls that overwhelmingly outnumber the few bad ones that those rejects own?
Same goes for guns. Somehow even those rejects get a gun legally and hurt everybody
with their disrespect of firearms.

I love Pits. They are great dogs and love people, but if they are mistreated and made mean, they are dangerous and need to be destroyed. The liberal media hates them and tells lies about them to try to outlaw them.

I love guns. They are fun to shoot. They are good for hunting. They are useful to protect me and mine. The liberals hate them. They tell lies about them to try to disarm us.

Duh..............;)

Except for the fact that a pit bull does have a mind of it's own, and genetics and the like can come into play and make dogs more aggressive; whereas a gun is just metal and does not have a brain or a will of it's own...

People just can't seem to get it in their heads that it's not the gun, it's not the dog, but it's the person controlling it
Well, a pit bull actually can act on it's own, it isn't really controlled by a person. A gun, on the other hand, cannot act on it's own.

You guys are thinking small. My favorite all time call for a ban of an item:

Baking Soda Ban Suggested to Control Crack
April 19, 2007

A Missouri state lawmaker has proposed banning baking soda from store shelves in order to prevent drug dealers from using it to make crack cocaine, KFVS-TV reported April 9.

Rep. Talibdin El-Amin, a Democrat from St. Louis, is proposing that baking soda only be sold behind the pharmacy counter to prevent crack production, similar to restrictions on cold medications intended to hinder the illicit manufacture of methamphetamine.

Gentlemen, we've done the guns vs. pit bulls comparision many times and it never ends well.

Whether pit bulls are loving family dogs who wouldn't hurt a fly or. actual agents of Satan trained by the devil himself to eat Christian babies by virtue of training and/or genetics seems to be key to this debate and is not on topic.
