A man from the West Brighton section of Staten Island is facing criminal weapons charges after accidentally shooting himself in the groin while waiting to board the Staten Island Ferry.
Duwayne Baugh, 30, of Dubois Avenue, was waiting in the Whitehall Ferry Terminal early in the afternoon on June 22 when his loaded 9mm semiautomatic handgun that was tucked into his waistband accidentally went off.
Baugh, with the bullet lodged in his testicle, alerted a security guard that he had shot himself and needed help, a spokesperson for the Manhattan District Attorney's Office said.
That same officer arrested Baugh on the spot.
After being treated at Bellevue Hospital, where his wounded testicle was removed, Baugh was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court and later released on $20,000 cash bail. He is due back in court on Aug.1 to be arraigned in Manhattan Supreme Court.
