I have been thinking if I should get rid of my Kimber Eclipse Target II for a "better" pistol. I am thinking about getting a RRA Basic Carry 1911.....but that gun is going to cost about $1500. I paid around $900 for the Kimber. The Kimber is an OK gun.....however I have some feed problems from time to time. And I just wonder if there is something I am missing by not stepping up to a different 1911. Is the RRA Basic Carry going to be worth the extra $600 that the Kimber costs? Also, what is out there in the $1000 market that might be a little tighter than the Kimber. Thanks!!

Dan Wesson Bobtail Commander I shot better group wih a friends DW than my Eclipse. This was same ammo and back to back shooting It also felt better in my hand. and doesn't have that silly fireingpin safety that Colt tried and dropped in late 1930's

funnily enough here's a pic of my RRA Pro carry with my Dan Wesson CBOB....

I love the RRA, it's beautifully fitted and finished, inside and out, great trigger and shoots better than I can.
My CBOB is my everyday carry. Although the attention to detail (fitting of the beavertail for example ) is not as nice as the RRA, functionally it's every bit as good and I'd venture, as accurate. It's about 97% of the quality of the RRA for around 1/2 the price.

Here's my CBOB next to my Kimber Pro Elite. It's an early custom shop gun from around 1999 or 2000 and is a great example of what kimber can make. I'd say the CBOB is notibly better as regards barrel/bushing/lock up and slide to frame fit. My CBOB trigger was too heavy and needed some work, but reliability has been faultless. As in no FTFs or FTEs or anything. I looked at a bunch of Kimbers before I bought the CBOB and none came close.

So if you want to step up from Kimber, I'd never say don't get a RRA, as I said, I love mine, but if you can have a look at DW's, especially their Valor. They're a bugger to find at retail but you might get lucky...

here's a pic of my CBOB after I fannied around and had it refinished...

Since your Kimber only chokes from time to time why not look into that problem rather than spending even more money on another brand? It could be a simple fix that could save you hundreds of dollars.

Dan Wesson Commander Bobtail. This is THE 1911 for concealed carry. Too bad it's so sexy looking. You'll feel bad when you start to get some holster wear.
