I have a Remington 700 VLS .243. It has a 26" heavy barrel with Leupold mounts and rings and a Leupold VX III 4.5-14X AO. I had originally set it up to shoot long distance p-dogs, but found that I shot it very little and now it sits in my gun cabinet. I mostly shoot my 17HMR, .204 and .223. So I have this really nice rifle, but doubt that I will ever use it much. It looks new and has had maybe 100-125 rounds shot thru it. What should I ask for it? With the scope? Without the scope? I appreciate your help.

I really don't know but figure the rifle new, just the rifle is what? Maybe a between $900 and $1,000 rifle? Then figure the optics and optics hardware in. The scope and hardware new would be what? Maybe between $600 and $700 depending (not sure that scope is still in production). So maybe in the $1,200 or $1,300 range.

My general answer is that any rifle on any given day is worth what someone who wants it is willing to pay for it. A rifle may well be worth $1,500 but unless someone is willing to pay that price it isn't worth it I guess. Nice setup you have there.

split the package up and put the scope on Ebay. It is hard to get maximum value for rifle/scope combos.

$25 and I'll buy it!!! Lol on a more serious note definitely research online on gunbroker, the classifieds here and at local gun stores or pawn shops to get a feel for it. Also may vary if you're selling local or online/shipped.

The rifle will bring 50%-75% of what a new one just like it is selling for. It depends on who is buying and other factors. In this case I'd think you should be able to come out closer to 75%. The mounts will bring nothing extra and should go with the rifle. You can always ask more, and might get more, but I'd expect it to sell within that range. That depends on how fast you want to sell it. If in no hurry you can always ask more and wait until a buyer comes along.

Most scopes add very little to the price, but a Leupold will be in about the same 50-75% range based on what a new version is selling for if sold separately. Selling them together will probably bring less.

Also, go up on www.Gunsamerica.com and see what sellers are asking. There are currently three listed, with prices running from $775 to $839.

That is a good starting point, but pay more attention to what similar versions actually sold for rather than the asking price. There are lots of sellers on those sights that are optimistic about their prices.

You need to do some home work before you settle on a price. With scope. With out scope as well.

Try Gun Broker or another like it. Opinions are fine but you could lose a nice piece of change by the "what do you think" method.
Even stranger to me is, you own it and don`t have any idea what it`s worth. J s/n.

Most rifle buyers will either make no allowance for or simply ignore the scope, preferring to make their own scope selection; therefore, the value of the scope to such a buyer is near zero. Good advice above--split the package.

I appreciate everyone's thoughts. This was my initial exploration and I plan to check the sources you suggested, which is consistent with what I planned to do anyway. And to Sav .250, not sure where you got the notion that I had no idea what it's worth. Certainly, I know what I paid and I know that it is nearly new. Just because I ask what people think, I'm not jumping at the first offer I get. I don't expect to get all my money out of it...we all like to build our own rifles. What I did get from all of you is that you think I would be better off selling the rifle and scope seperately and it's helpful to get the feedback
