Semi-Auto .308

I have multiple Saiga .308's in various configurations. All "converted".
Here is my go to .308. I moved the front site block back and threaded the barrel. Moved/replaced the trigger group up (where it is supposed to be) installed a collapsible stock. That old Millet 5MOA red dot and this gun is very accurate for hogs/deer out to 200 yards. I probably spent an afternoon of my time and $150 bucks. Bought the gun new for $475. It is very reliable and accurate as I mentioned.
Sitting on a bench punching paper and measuring with dial calipers I know nothing about :) Now counting dead hogs that have been shot and dropped well over 150 yards I know plenty about :)

LOL...well I gotta ask.....this internet thing takes another language sometimes :) Thanks......
and how did you get your gun to stick to the ceiling that way? I never seen a ceiling carpeted.

I really like your setup.

a friend swears by his DPMS, but I know they get a bad rep on the forums.
DPMS' AR15 pattern rifles really aren't that well made. Their SR-25 pattern LR-308 rifles are actually quite well made though. It's almost like two different companies make the rifles. I've owned both, and still own an LR-308, but own higher end AR15 type rifles. I wouldn't rule out DPMS in the larger pattern AR rifles.

With MagPul PMag LR out now magazines for the Knight's SR-25 / LMT MWS / DPMS LR-308 are downright cheap.

Fnar is more of a hunting gun with synthetic stocks than a military rifle right? I wondernhow it would hold up to poor conditions vs the others under discussion?

I appreciate all the other suggestions. The saiga's are neat but I'd really only consider a 12 gauge or proper ak caliber in that rifle. Ive been aware of the FNAR since they came out. I'm sorry, but they are just plain ugly.

This is just a fun gun. I don't need laser like accuracy. Just something that will be fun to shoot and accurate enough to bit paper under 100yards out.

It sounds like the m14 and hk are the best options based on my physical restrictions. I've pretty much decided that I'm going to pass on another AR at this time.

So which HK should I be looking at that won't break the bank or itself?

P.S. I'm not a reloader. So don't really care much about brass abuse.

If you don't care about brass and just want a fun to shoot .308, then the saiga has a few more advantages. It eats just about anything close to .308.

I've shot some really nasty .308 ammo through mine, only thing that stopped it was a tar filled firing pin channel. Also does fine with lacquered steel case ammo which messes up other rifles.

I've a crazy suggestion. Pick up a rack-grade Garand from ODCMP
http://www.odcmp.com/Sales/rifles.htm
and put a fresh 308 barrel on it.

You would have a piece of history; a rifle you could always sell for more than you paid for it; a rifle you could do highpower comp with; and excellent iron sights (same as the M14). I prefer my Garand to my M14 especially in prone fire, and if you suddenly decide dress you rifle with a black polymer stock, or a work-of-art-walnut, they are available at a good price.

Went to the gun show today. Came home with a M1A Socom II in all black. Added some accessories. It was more than I expected to spend. But what a sweet rifle!

Handled a cetme that was obviously abused. It was much smaller and lighter than I expected. The sights were horrible IMHO. Also handled a mini-30. Just felt cheapish to me. Though I know they are excellent rifles.
