semi auto home defense shotguns

Don't forget the possibility that semi-auto shotguns may mis-feed/short-cycle on reduced-recoil buck loads that many find desirable for in-home use.

A lot less likely than someone under stress short-shucking that pump gun of theirs

Both can happen. ...But you seem to be suggesting that semi-auto shotguns would actually be less likely to be problematic for the average HD shotgunner, aren't you?

Let's look past my questioning that "managed recoil" loads are likely infallible in any HD auto (though I disagree), can you expand on your implication that a noob is as well served with an auto shotgun as they would be a pump for HD purposes?

I love autos. I'm just not sure they're a bread-n-butter HD solution for someone that isn't purchasing their 20th-or-so shotgun.

No offense intended,

Les

I think you got it right on, "bread & butter" for most people is an inexpensive pump-action to throw behind the bed for home defense purposes.

A fact often overlooked with SG for HD is = a semi auto could be fired one handed if need be. Your off hand could be injured or holding a child etc. --- with a semi-auto , and why I like a pistol grip on mine --- you can fire more then one round if ever needed with just your strong hand ---- try that with a pump !!!

Terminator 2 was on TV today, so maybe we could all just learn from Linda Hamilton and chamber a round in a pump with one hand :p
