Hello All,
I am looking for a thread similar to the one in the revolver section: "Revolver checkout: how to tell if a particular specimen is any good" , but one that is about Semi Autos. Does anyone know if one exists?
If it has be Narrowed down to a Make and Model.
I am loking at a 9mm Berreta 92 and Glock 17 or 19.
Thank you

Well here are the things I look for.

1)Make sure the slide doesn't feel like it's binding when working it.
2)Make sure all safeties function as they should.
3)Make sure magazine release functions as it should.
4)Make sure magazine will be held in place as it should.
5)Make sure all decockers work as they should.
6)Look at the extractor and make sure it is not chipped or cracked etc.
7)Check magazine spring tension.
8)Make sure there are no cracks or chips.
9)Check barrel for cracks, chips and pitting.
10)Look for obvious out of the ordinary wear marks. (NOTE wear marks are normal in many cases. For example do a search on SIG smileys.)
11)Make sure sights are firmly in place.

These are the big things that I look at.

Chris
