Senator Lautenberg Proposes Legislation to Restrict Reloading

So he used powder from fireworks. And look at this interesting tidbit from the article.

The bill does not seem to affect fireworks dealers.

Not that I'm advocating for controlling or limiting fireworks sales, but this is more proof that the problem is not what they're trying to solve. They're using every excuse to restrict law abiding gun owners. They're not even going after where he got the explosives, just using it as an excuse.

I heard they used fireworks and "shotgun powder " maybe they cut up some shot shell and fireworks ? that would explain how they did what they did with only enough fireworks to get 3 lbs of powder. but of corse the libs. just want to go after the powder . and they were saying you could build one of those for about $100 ??? I'd be happy to buy a perssure-cooker full of H-4831 for only $100 , the wife could make jam and I could have a few good days at the range :D

I'd like to know how long it will be before the news gets out that they didn't go out and buy a keg or two of powder ,

It just never ceases to amaze me with the utter nonsense that comes from their mouths. I can't help but wonder if they can even open their fly without help from someone else.

you did see the (D-NJ) buy his name right LOL...

Or get much legislative traction. Look out for this one to simply fade away.

He's a nut
This.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. It has actually been brought up before, and died a natural death, as it should have.

Lautenberg is an always has been an ASS. However, as others have said, this won't go anywhere. He's just once again appealing to his nanny state base.

The active ingredient in the over-the-counter fireworks I've bought is flash powder, not black powder.

Part of his proposal is to prevent a SUSPECTED TERRORIST from buying expolsives.
Are these guys brain dead or WHAT?
Why isn't a suspected terrorist in prison?

And the main difference in ingredients is that flash powder uses powdered aluminum instead of powdered charcoal. Commercial flash powder uses potassium perchlorate instead of potassium nitrate and sulfur, but the main difference is the powdered aluminum. Either one is easy to make.

Flash powder is more explosive than either black powder or smokeless powder, so of course it makes perfect sense to regulate the latter two and leave the flash powder and fireworks alone. :banghead:

Perhaps the esteemed Senator - in his dotage - has inadvertently committed a "good deed" with his legislation !

Given the contrary nature of Americans, I can see many/most BP shooters crafting their own powder. And its not a too long a stretch to presume the "smokeless" fans crafting their own cordite and beyond. Even better, I anticipate American ingenuity will find ways to craft other propellants. Its (remotely I'm sure) possible some genius or scientific cabal might just create a new system. >MW

We as gun owners and enthusiasts in general like to point out that politicians do not follow logic, statistics, and facts in regards to almost anything. "Assault weapons" make up less than 2% of gun violence? Lets ban them! Criminals getting firearms from stealing and black market? Lets punish legal gun owners! Boston Bombers kill 3 and maim 100 using firework explosive in a pressure cooker? Lets attack gun powder! Almost makes me think every legislator in DC has ADD. Whenever something comes up, they attack something completely unrelated. Well seemingly unrelated but that is what I have stock in Reynolds wrap for.
