I acquired a 7mm Rem Mag in a No 1 made in 1969, awesome classic.

Thing is I'm a right handed shooter and want something in a bolt gun for 1k yard shooting.

If you Google "Accurizing Ruger No 1" you'll see pages and pages of guys using everything up to voodoo magic trying to get these guns to shoot.

Has me a little concerned... Going to try it before I knock it.

Anyways I want to sell it off and get what I really want, a great bolt gun in the thousand dollar range.

My friends shoot Sendaros and love them. I've got the VSSF, it's varmint brother and it's a one holer. What's the difference between the Sendaro and the Long Range? Besides the fancy barrel?

Also pretty fond of Weatherby and Sako. I can get a deal on Sako 85's and there's an Accumark on Gun Broker in 7mm. Thanks guys.

I have four Sako's, until recently it was three. I received a small inheritance from my grandmother and wanted to buy something that would make me Happy for years to come. So, with cash in hand I went to a large LGS and looked at what I could get with around $3000 Aussie.

I handled a Merkel, Weather by mkIV, Browning Maral, Sako 85 Grizzly, and many others varying from $1200+ ~ $3000

I kept coming back to the Grizzly, I don't know if it was familiarity or what, but I was leaning towards it almost from the get go. The Merkel was a close second, but had a 3 round may capacity that I thought limiting.

I have a VLS '85 in .308 and a VLS in .222 along with a .222 Vixen, all are as smooth as glass, nothing in the shop compared, particularly the Weatherby, which was a shame as I had really wanted to like it.

Picking a nice rifle is a delicious tragedy ;)

Good luck!

It's terrible lol!
I inherited a 270 Wby and finally got a chance to shoot it after putting the vintage stock in the closet and fitting a B&C to it. It was doing about 1 MOA plus then boom! Found the magic charge for R23! uploadfromtaptalk1439423894838.jpg

It shot very well. The trigger is heavier than I really like but it was very good. I hope I perform that well at 55!

I saw Cabelas offers a Sako A7 Longrange, it's an exclusive.... Oh the choices. Remington makes a fine rifle, but I own two and I'd like to branch out.

From what I understand, correct me if I'm wrong, the sender is from the custom shop and the long range is off the production line...

If I was looking for a 1,000 yd rifle for about $1k right now, I'd take a real close look at the new Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5 CM. All the reviews I've read so far suggest they will be a great value.

It's on the list, but I want a 7 mag.

Looks like the main difference would be one is stainless steel and the other is not.

How often are you really going to be shooting at 1000 yards?

I would go with a short action caliber unless you're going to be shooting at animals at that distance. Which would be sort of careless with a budget gun/scope.

The nice thing about sticking with a Remington is that it's easy to get custom work done on them.

I'd be shooting targets, praire dogs out there a ways. But honestly 500 is my ethical shot distance with good equipment and a rifle I know. I've got a 308, 243, 22-250 and 270 Weatherby. Looking for something to push high BC bullets with authority. Of course the 308 will do that and the 6.5's. My 308 needs some upgrades before it will be where I need it for long range. Needs a stock and a suppressor.

I own all 3 rifles mentioned. The Sako 85 is favored by a wide margin. Better trigger, smoother, tighter action and just as accurate as the others even with a sporter barrel.
