Huh, this was put up quite awhile ago, it looks like it didnt sell and they are relisting it.

I really dont see anything wrong with this. Yes, the pistol was used for an immoral purpose, but it is still just a pistol, a pistol with an interesting story behind it. I dont think that makes it worth two grand, but it doesnt make the seller "wrong" it just makes them a bit optimistic.

Well, theres 3 ways I could think of to look at this:

1) Its just a gun. The model itself dosnt seem to be a collectable, so this piece of metal is not worth the asking price.

2) Many pro-gun would find it distasteful to buy a weapon they knew was used in a crime, much less tout that fact with letters of verification.

3) Kenneth who? Never heard of him. Might have some value to local collectors with a flair for its morbid history, but still at $2000.

You've never heard of Kenneth Bianchi? Wow...well:

I think it has value as an educational/museum piece. Woulnd't consider bidding personally for it. It should be donated to a quality museum where it can be stored properly and used for educational purposes. What educational value? To educate as to what some killers can and have done in pursuit of their goals, kind of like reading the books of John Douglas about the cases he worked on while an FBI profiler. It is wise to study the methods of one's enemies (why I visit the gun control web pages on occassion).

Last time it was up on GB

I contacted them and asked if it violated any of their policies. I said that I thought that it reflected poorly on GB and on responsible gun owners.

I received a response. In essence the respondent agreed with my position, but since it did not violate any of GB's policies...

Err, was this weapon actually used in a killing? (I read the link, but it dosnt specificly mention a shooting)

Its still morally wrong, I agree, but its not against the law.

I'm curious as to where the funds for this sale are going. If the money was going to a good cause, the victems families for example, it might almost be a good idea.... Altho they probly wouldnt be too happy with a buyer whos out to idolize the killer or profiteer off this tragedy.

And the guy selling it should take a remedial course in grammar.

's please. Or maybe s' if he means both of the Hillside Stranglers.

Either way, far too creepy to own...........

Don't buy any mausers, enfields, 91/30's, garands, ec. they might be BL0OD guns. It's a stupid collector thing morals do not even enter it.:banghead:

Some might hold fighting for one's country to be a mite different from serial killings.
But, to each his own.

Except that Mausers and Mosins could just have easily been used to excecute noble heros and subjugate the innocent. We are getting big groups of Yugo guns that could easily have been used in some form of Ethnic cleansing.

Hi c_yeager :)

Yes, it is possible.
And if I knew a specific Mauser or Mosin HAD been used in ethnic cleansing,
and was furthermore being sold/touted SPECIFICALLY as having actually been
used for ethnic cleansing, I would have the same reservations.

Hi Justin,

My first time to see such a thread as this myself, and the issues around it
are substantive for many people, apparently. It's still gun related, just like
those periodic zombie/bear threads.

;)

I really wish the stupid thing would sell, because I'm getting tired of seeing this topic pop up every two weeks.

Yep. On the proverbial "bright side," this site seems to attract plenty of new people to whom this may well be new news. As well as I can discern, most news is about the same, but then, I seem to be turning a bit jaded in my second childhood.

this gun is worse than the Energizer bunny......... it keeps going and going and.....

Used weapons are a mixed bag.
You could buy a ww2 garand that never killed anyone just as easily as you could pickup a recent target pistol that was just used to murder a guys family in cold blood. Theres no way to know for sure unless someone tells you, is there?

Its curious how people can get squeamish about a weapons history.
If this gun was priced normally, without the letter or the hoopla (lets say they just hinted the weapon might have been used in a crime), how many here would still not want it?

If it could be independently verified that it did belong to Ken Bianchi, I'd like to have it for my collection for police lore/history's sake. However, it does appear to be very overpriced.
