We've seen threads, some quite recent, about what constitutes a good knife for a service member. The question has added pertinence for me, since I've been recently reactivated by the Army.

Here is one version, the knife my friend Shane Justice is building for me to take along.

knife is 52100.

Fittings are 416 stainless.

Tan G10 handle.

It is in about 80% finished state....

Real nice piece of work there! That is one sweet blade. It should cover all the bases for you very efficiently. I just received a Kabar with the D2 and thought I was in tall cotton, but this is a sweetheart. If ya need a Busse, let me know and it'll be on its way (Steel Heart- just getting broken in well- it would be an honor for it to serve overseas with ya BTW).

Very nice! I like the curvature and the slight belly on the blade. Does it feel front heavy at all?

Sweet - I like the temper line! G10 or micarta is a perfect handle for that knife and it's purpose. Very nice.

I haven't received the knife yet. I had initially been ordered to report 10 July, but have requested a delay to finish school, and won't report in until given updated orders. I'm not supposed to bring "weapons", which specifically includes knives, so I was planning on having the knife shipped to me after I left Benning.

This is not a large knife, as y'all can probably tell, though it is a little longer (5.5" blade) than would be optimal under peacetime conditions.

ak, that is a kind offer, but keep your knife, with my thanks.

Daniel, I would expect a knife like this to be slightly blade-heavy. I told Shane that I might need to chop through the bands around ammo crates in an emergency.

Mike, a prytip might be a good thing, especially if it might also contain the lanyard hole, the only thing this blade really lacks.
